Did you receive a "push gift" or a "baby bauble"? The New York Times reported yesterday on the growing trend of husbands presenting wives with gifts, generally jewelry, upon the birth of a child. Seen as a reward for pushing that baby out and for nine months of physical sacrifice, the article suggests that more and more mothers have come to expect, and drop excessive hints about, such a gift. Results of a survey by BabyCenter.com showed that 38% of new mothers received a push gift and that 55% of pregnant survey-takers wanted one. 40% of both these groups, however, felt the baby was the only reward they needed.
