This weekend's OC Register Home & Garden section featured the the home of Jon Gothhold and Janice Lowry. They transformed a "jacked" ranch home in Santa Ana into a playful modern space. The above image is the "Before". The "After" is below...

Both Jon and Janice are creatives, (one is a partner at advertising firm DGWB (he's the "G"), and the other is an artist) and the article details their process and their approach to renovation. We love how they opened things up and the playful cut-outs in the walls. Read the rest of the article here, and see the slide show to see lots more pics (and check out the "ledge like" vanity in the bathroom!)

WOW! Night and day!
From "Golden Girls" to "Sex and the City" great job!
Not feeling the rug under the dog or the colors on the wall, but a lot better than what it was.
"Creatives?" Please don't.
both photos are pretty "yikes", in my opinion...
Fabulous.
And YES, "creatives". Why don't you snivelers put yourselves out there for judgement?
I'm missing something here. Are we commenting on the word "creative" as:
A) a noun that describes them, or
B) the fact that they ARE creative, and their decorative sense speaks otherwise?
If it's
A) then YES, I apologise and agreements all around, I suppose. I'm an artist, but I don't even like using THAT term. But it IS how I make my living, so I guess I get to use the title. 8^p But I could never call myself a "creative".
B) I just don't understand dissing on other people's taste with impunity. The "creative" side of me (adjective, not noun) finds it extremely cheap.
I think they're using "creatives" as a slimmed down version of "creative class"... usually considered to be the upperclass gays, childless couples under 40 and others who keep jacking up the cost of living near downtown.
