Blogging The Architectural Forum... from 1937!

Recently, we were given a 1937 issue of Architectural Forum dedicated to domestic interiors. We've been fascinated by all the attention given to the home by leading architects and designers of the day -- and by a much different attitude towards space. It is seen as a precious resource that should be conserved and used with great care. Our theme this month is beds and sleeping, so we've scanned two inspiring bedroom plans for you, one by well-known designer Russell Wright...

We like how this couch turns into a bed at night -- but still looks sleek the rest of the day, thanks to built-in pillow storage. The mechanism is simple, too: it wouldn't be hard to recreate this as a DIY project.

Forgive the scan quality and check out the space-saving details here: the blanket chest integrated into the base of the bed, for example, or the trays that swing out from the nightstands. (And we're waiting for separate beds to make a comeback...)
