It's a big week for modern furniture brands and bikes. Minneapolis-based Blu Dot debuted an exciting collaboration with Minnesotan-made Handsome Cycles for a bike that gives back.
The "devilishly fun" bike is designed to stir nostalgia, not, as they put it, "conquer Alpe d'Huez." It's stripped-down simplicity, but with quality upgrades: single speed, coaster brakes, Brooks saddle and "bitchin'" leather gripped handlebars.
Like their respective furniture offerings, Blu Dot's bicycle is more pricey than IKEA's—$799 compared to $499. But, it also has a feel-good factor: for every bike sold, Blu Dot donates one to World Bike Relief, whose mission is to help bring affordable transportation to rural areas of developing countries.
