I recently bumped into this project a year plus after I finished it, and was reacquainted with a question I had back then--would blue and orange wind up looking like a Holiday Inn?
I barely remember painting this or even discussing the color, other than this--we were picking a rich blue to look good behind an "orange" sofa I had never seen, to make the boyfriend happy. I kept thinking that's going to look like the worst caricature of the 1950s, but oh well.
Anyway, time passes and here we are--the blue wall is more than blue, the sofa is more of a cork color and I find myself delighted with how orange the lamp is. The exact hue may be lost to the mists of time, as I can't find my paint schedule for that project, but it was definitely Fine Paints of Europe, and we were looking for something "underwater."
Moral of the story: smile, keep your mouth shut and trust your client's instincts.
