They were once called water closets because, well, bathrooms are all about water. Perhaps that is why the color blue makes so much sense in the bathroom. Icy cool blues bring an extra sense of sanitary sleekness, while inky deep blues give the bathroom the serenity and calmness of a deep ocean. But don't be afraid of the funky bright blues; after all, bathrooms are the ideal place to experiment with bold color and off-kilter design.
FIRST ROW
1 Elle Decor. Architect Steven Learner drew inspiration from the indigo tiles that line traditional Turkish hammams for the open shower in his downtown Manhattan apartment. Learner sheathed his master bath in shiny subway tiles of a deep cobalt, which he offset with a pure-white tub.

#5 is the color of our master bedroom. It's a really great color, surprisingly very relaxing, and it goes with everything. I would love the colors of picture #2 in my kitchen.
The bathroom in photo 3 is exquisite. The dark ceiling raises it above the ordinary. I deeply dislike the first bath. It's too much like a "public convenience" for me.

Amazing! None of these (not even the "groovy vintage blue" is the particular ghastly shade of 1950s blue that is tiled all over my bathroom. After this, I'll be done with blue bathrooms forever, thank you very much.
Blue is my favorite color - but not in an area where I apply makeup. Spas are white or pale pink for a reason - do not conflict with skin tone.
