Blue velvet has withstood the test of time, it's just as smooth and sexy as it was fifty years ago. It takes a little swagger to pull the blue velvet look off, but, when done right — it's oh so sexy.

I am not too attached to the "tufted" nature of the pieces pictured...however I really do like the color and shape of the couch in the second picture. It goes very well with the hairpin leg tables too...I wonder where those are from? I thought I saw some in the west elm catalogue (just placed in the room pictures) but when I went on the website, it appears they don't carry them. boohoo :-(
Maybe I will check overstock - they sometimes have cute mid century pieces. Any suggestions? (besides combing the thrift shops/craigslist)

I loved the navy velvet draperies in my bedroom...
...and considering an Indigo Velvet sofa w/ nailhead trim for the living room to replace the white leather sectional - Something about traditional formality is speaking to me these days.
What I wouldn't give for a blue velvet couch.
I have a natural linen covered headboard, and I regularly rest my waxy hair against it, no problem. I don't know how velvet would respond to the hair wax/hair oil I use, though. Hmmm...
I do like blue velvet, especially when it resembles mohair, like the sofa in the third image: the luminous quality to that velvet, how the pile refracts the light and changes the appearance just sends happy thrills down my spine. Peacock blue/green velvet was one of the colors I considered for my sofa... before I decided to go with peachy/orange instead.
I look better on peachy orange than I do on blue.
I have a blue velvet couch, about the shade of the couch in photo 2. Jealous? ;)

i wanted to order my sofa in blue velvet, and the salesperson at room and board looked at me like i had said that i wanted to soak my sofa in cat urine.

@shermme: unless I missed something, it's green in every Mad Men episode. I saw this image last year and it puzzled me. I suppose it's the colour processing on the photo.
