Paint swatch art meets pop art meets the one time I tried to go record shopping after partaking in $3 margarita night at El Cid Tacos; the album covers we know and love, but slightly off-kilter, obscured just enough to be visually stimulating beyond a straightforward band poster.
Artist David Marsh samples paint swatches the way a DJ samples breakbeats, piecing together tones and shades to recreate familiar album covers in a minimalist fashion. Marsh's process revolves around "represent[ing] the artwork in as few colours and shades as possible yet still retain[ing] the realization of the image."
I think the results lend a bit of mystery to the familiar and are definitely frame worthy. These prints are more pop art than a band poster and a far better investment than record shopping after $3 margarita night (I have three really bad cover albums to prove it. My friend said they would be funny. They're not that funny. Anyone down for some klezmer covers of the Bee Gees? I didn't think so. Darn margaritas.).
