This is a wonderful concept! Though that being said, I am always one to consider safety and I would be fearful of a mechanical malfunction and the sudden "drop" if it were to happen. Also, watch out that your cat(s) doesn't end up closed inside.

no, I agree with you SuSu, there is a lot that could happen with that bed and I dont mean anything pretty.

what looks good on paper isnt always safe, no matter what the designer thinks (usually someone who doesnt have children or pets that could get hurt).

aw jeez, people, a door can be a lethal weapon, too, if you slam it on someone. A well-designed storage bed, with high-quality hinges that stay open, is no more dangerous than a door. Just don't slam it shut on your cat or child.

I've had a flou storage bed for five years-- no casualties yet.

i have this. i love it. it's sturdy and stylish. it won't close on your head unless someone jumps on it.

it's also great because it doesn't require a headboard, unlike most storage beds out there. i don't have room for a headboard!

don't be fooled by the photos, though. there is no floor to it. and there is a support leg in the middle that may scratch your floor, but that is easily solved with a felt or a piece of cardboard.

I just got back from living in China for a few months and every bed I've seen there had this hydrolic storage function. It's very safe, the mechanism makes it easy to lift the mattress up, but it takes more effort to close it back down.

I have the Ikea Sultan version of this bed and it's awesome! I have a cat and am also cautious, but it's well made and the hydraulics work. It creates a massive amount of storage for you, I really recommend it.

ummm this isn't a new idea...they are all over europe and the middle east, as far as i know.

I would love this bed in full size. How odd that they make it only in queen size.

There's a very similar one at Ikea called Odda ...twin size only tough. :(

But I too, love the full size version of the Sultan Alekull. SO great for all that stuff that needs to go somewhere!

I have the IKEA version of this bed. The ikea design is alot nicer but for sure not as well made as the Bo concept version. It also too 5 hours to put together with many missteps. But the bed has worked well for me the last 2 yrs I have a small bedroom 11ft x 9 ft and I needed space for all my beddings and suitcases and it really is alot of space. The mechanism to left the bed is ok I wish i were stronger sometimes Im not sure it will hold up but it has never failed and I lift the bed once a week to change beddings. Not sure if IKEA still carried it but Id recommend it any day over the Bo cocncept bed for style and price.

This type of bed is a perfect way to add storage in city living spaces.
I purchased the Ikea Sultan version of this bed several years ago when looking for a frame to place my memory-foam matress. Although I am not sure if Ikea makes this bed, I will say that once I got it put together I could not be more pleased with the "acreage" that it created.
The extra storage goes a long way in a one-bedroom condo; and because the Sulton bed has metal legs you have added storage under the lidded box which holds the matress.
The hydaulic system has works quite well; I open it daily for shoes that are stored there.
Irony is that Ikea only charged a couple hundred bucks for basically the same item albeit in pieces.

It's a great idea for bedroom furniture, so long as it doesn't open while you're sleeping and catapult you accross the room. Second thoughts, that could be quite fun!
