Antonio Ballatore won HGTV's Design Star Season 4 for his extremely original concepts and bold choices with color and design. Inside his kitchen he pays homage to the win of his first challenge by painting the wall all the way up (19 feet!) in hot pink. Of course, the focal point of this wall is the infamous pink bird.
Antonio is not afraid to create statement pieces and he believes there are significant ways to express who you are through the stories in your home. The presence of the pink bird evokes memories about the launch of his career and how winning HGTV's Design Star was achieved. He is quite adamant about not following trends or any "rules" about designing your interior space. At one point during the season he even stated "I'd rather be thrown off the show than paint this room beige".
Another important element that Antonio insists on bringing into his clients homes (and his own) is function and fun! So while you have a hot pink wall hanging above a very masculine industrial kitchen, he is equipped with a dining room table and seating for at least 10 people. While many people would opt to install a granite and lacquer sleek modern kitchen, Antonio built the cabinetry out of reclaimed wood and left all the piping and beams exposed. These are all basic decisions that come quite naturally to him, which is why he landed himself his own show, The Antonio Treatment.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Good, I like it :-)
I applaud his philosophy and his panache!
That's probably my least favorite color. To each her own.
I applaud his philosophy and panache too! I love the colour, it goes so well with the wood & metal. I'm a vibrant colour person!
it's definitely unique. I'm really enjoying many other aspects of the room, like all of the reclaimed wood.

Love that the space actually looks used. There is an actual coffee pot etc. I am tired of the overly staged look.
I love this color.
would never pick this color myself, but i love it here. well done.
I love the Antonio Treatment so it's great to see he carries his innovative style into his own home. Great job!
I can see myself having breakfast with Antonio in this kitchen. Hint, hint.
The pink wall and bird are my least favorite things in this kitchen. The paper lanterns are pretty bad, too. Antonio seems like a cool guy, but I have never liked his decorating. To each their own, I guess.
I like the pink wall, but the scale of the bird seems small for that space. Cool kitchen
Antonio is hot! So is this room.
Wow, I definitely dont like pink, any shadow of it, but it's stunning in this kitchen, I mean, it's stunning in a kitchen wall. There's so much fun and cozyness in this place, of course not only for the pink wall, but its combination with all the wood and metal stuff. Mixing up different materials and textures is all about me! Greta kitchen, Im in love.
Love the wall and space, but what's up with those janky lights tied up on the ceiling? C'mon Antonio!
I love the statement he is making but I am not a hot pink person.
The two lights look so lonely up there. If you're going for the paper lantern look in a loft-like area, go for it. A swarm of paper lanterns in different sizes, hung at different heights, would have looked so much better.
The hot pink wall is stunning, though I wouldn't want to live with it. The bird blends in too much though, I think it would look better if it contrasted; a stainless steel bird to echo the appliances, weathered wood echoing the awesome woodwork already there, white... something different than the same pink of the walls. Also it should be bigger, it looks so lost in the huge empty expanse of wall.
Uniquely Ballatore. A sense of freedom and FUNction is always apparent. Totally touchable. This livable, lived-in space makes the "do it yourself" novice feel like, "I CAN do this!" A truly stylish, yet, non-threatening design.
Being a person who loves working in the kitchen, I would want some pendant lighting because of the high ceilings. Those are details significant to the owner, I would imagine, not necessarily the design itself.
nifty!
the hot pink bird is what won him the first challenge of Design Star Season 4. He honors this by adding that bold choice in color to his wall :) Highly personal I think....
Pretty Certain Colbie Caillat shot her "I Do" video in this kitchen, was just watching the video on YouTube. In the right space and lighting the color works, and I think it does for this space.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Just did a cabinet in Benjamin Moore's Wild pink-now I'm sorry I didn't pick a more bold, over the top pink!
I hate the color pink on anything (you sure won't catch me wearing it). It has to do with my having insisted that my dad paint my bedroom walls a Pepto pink when I was 8 years old and have everything else be pink or white within the room. By age 13, I hated my bedroom and used babysitting money to pay for a dark blue bedspread to replace the pink one (any color to break the sea of pink!). My parents have never repainted that room and use it for storage now. I gag whenever I visit home and peek inside - the walls are still just as pink as ever!
However...
#15, the one pink kitchen wall in that loft, does have its charm.
