A year ago we posted about some of the cool furniture pieces coming out of RAD Furniture, a design and fabrication workshop in South Austin. A lot has happened in a year, and they've come up with more clever modern designs. They seek to "utilize the construction efficiencies and material properties inherent to steel and wood, producing useful furniture that is durable, customizeable, flexible, and fun." We're sold on their bright colors and neat details, and love those elements that define their brand, like perforated metal, bold powder-coated steel, reclaimed wood, witty designs and more. And though all these pieces look great inside, all the steel pieces can be used outdoors, and the wood pieces outdoors if they have some cover.
RAD Furniture, which consists of principle Ryan Anderson and Jack Wingerath, Katherine Lee and Ruben Ruckman, take on a number of custom projects and items for sale. Some of their pieces that are making us swoon: a metal and wood bed with detachable side tables that can turn into wall shelves, Barbara stools made out of reclaimed wood that feature a neat detail and a Walnut Drawer Table made of perforated metal, walnut wood and a shock of red inside the drawer.
Their new website will ready to be perused soon, and for Austin residents, they'll be hosting a pop up shop at 912 Congress avenue from October 21st - 24th, with the official launch party happening October 23rd from 6pm-11pm. They'll have 40 RAD pieces you can see in person, and you'll be able to get a discount on online purchases through a specified date.

Nomade Express Slee...
Love the bold colors and the mix of wood and metal.
alas i will never know the wonders of the furniture, because the website is so. damn. crappy. (seriously. that site needs lots & lots of help.)
Remember that time I wrote this post and made it sound like the current website is the new, slick website? I was TOTALLY wrong. Their website now looks so cool to me I THOUGHT it was their new one up already. But no---they've got a new one coming in. So sorry to all the readers and RAD for getting that wrong. Check back on them in a week for both the pop up shop and the new website!
RAD's new e-commerce website will be up and running this coming weekend, october 23rd, in correspondence with a RADfurniture.com launch party in Austin. Right now, the website you see is merely our old portfolio-style site.
