Now that we are heading into the holidays, it's hard to escape retail stores showing off seasonal flair. This is the time of year most common for decorating with the color red — but it got me thinking about how red is a brave choice for everyday design, too.
Just like this Swedish real estate photo found on Home Designing, I admire those who choose such a bold palette to create a striking focal point in any space. In the past I've painted walls a deep blue, a dark grey, and even a rich green — but red has always been one color I remained somewhat apprehensive about. The use of this wallpaper, which is really a patterned gloss/matte red on red, brings an artistic approach to adding color and warmth to a room.

I love the high gloss design on the same color in flat look :) It's not over the top or obnoxious since you really only see it at certain angles.
Orangeish red walls can look cheerful. Purplish or blackish red walls look horror-show. Lighting and the proportion of red to the room's other colors largely determine the mood. I wanted red walls when it was my favorite color, but after seeing a few in person I prefer to use red just as an accent.
