these are pretty cool, but I usually like more creative hooks- as in the shape of the hook. This seems like a really easy DIY project. I bet you could have some fun picking out what books to use and how... :)

This is an easy DIY and it looks kind of neat, but it makes me sad to see books destroyed. They may have been dumpster bound titles anyway, and there is an argument to be made that this is better than throwing them away, but I just don't think that I could bring myself to do this...or appreciate that anyone else has.

What next - Using old/controversial books as kindling?

Not getting this at all.

Seeing books destroyed makes me sad, same with old records. I'd rather make a fake book or record than ruin a real one.

No, I've missed something... I'm pay a German design company to first attach the hooks to the book, import the old book to America, then I hang the hook-covered book on my wall.

And, WHY am I sticking a random book on the wall again? Oh-- because that's being GREEN.

I love books, particularly used books (check out betterworldbooks.com if you never have!) but I have no problem with this. People (and especially libraries) throw out books all the time. If a few beautiful or interesting books can be saved and used as practical art, then I say Bravo!

so, umm yes ruining books is sad, but you do know out there that if you buy these they are in german. . . were you gonna read them anyway??? I can, I love german books, but i don't see this as disrespectful to literature so much as reusing a book you probably read 23 times and don't want to get rid of.

Not sure what Shirley-temple-of-doom thinks she accomplishes by criticizing almost everything she comments on (examples: http://community.apartmenttherapy.com/com/User/shirleytempleofdoom). I think this is a great way to bring life to something that could possibly end up in a landfill. Don't judge a book by its cover!

Not sure why RADAM thinks that a discarded book-- that's been modified so it can no longer be read, and serves no purpose in aid of hanging coats-- is magically re-purposed simply through being hung on one's wall.

A self-congratulatory badge of eco-warrior heroism? A trophy meant to allude to one's love of books ("I read. I even have a book screwed to the wall, see?")?

Not sure what we're to judge a book by, if not its cover, in this case.
