As a blogger sometimes you know your post will get the crap kicked out of it, but you still feel compelled to share an idea. There's a good chance this will be one of those posts.
We love outside-the-box thinking. And this murphy-style bed, if nothing else, inspires us to think big (or strange). We spotted this puzzle piece wall bed on Treehugger and it took us a while to figure it out. It seems that once you pull the bed off the wall, you scooch the two bed pieces together to create a single (?) bed.
Now we'll pick on the idea to beat you to the punch. It seems like the bed pictured in the "after" photo is bigger than the bed that was attached to the wall. And of course there's the whole issue of having creases where the puzzle pieces of the two bed parts fit together. Oh, and it's just not that attractive. But other than that, we reward the ingenuity and appreciate the spirit of the idea.

White Enamel Four-P...
everything about this post made me laugh out loud.
I think the basic design is pretty ingenious - just needs some fine tuning.
I think AT already posted this a while back ...
second melk! Thank you for bringing in the new year with a good sense of humor Kyle!
One more reason Kyle is the best blogger on AT.
Really, I think if you have a home design blog, you really have to bring this one.
love that
This is EXCELLENT for guest sleeping, or those living in a hobbit hole. Very nice.
Bizarre and fascinating...
I wonder how easily the parts would slip apart if you were, say, vigorously moving (ahem) on the mattress. And the thing that's always bugged me about Murphy-type beds is that you do have the floor space when they're folded up, but you can't really use it for much since you're going to need it that night.
Nifty idea, though.
I'll give you kudos for not taking the product too seriously and double kudos for loving the "spirit" of it even with its flaws :)
It's perfect for a guest bed. You don't want anybody...vigorously moving...in there, lol! I think it's clever, but a little bit of sophistication in the design would go a long way.
just a thought, the bed lying down is not actually too big, its just right if you consider how deep the bookcase is and how thick the bed is - there are two of each matress piece and you can see through the sheets on the bed that there are two halves, so basically it makes 2 single mattresses out of 4 shaped pieces. Geometry at work.
You know us so well...
Yes! An AT post that's not just cheerleading, but still has wit and substance. (If only it was written in first person singular, but that's another battle.)
Maybe for a guestroom? It could be fun for a kid's room, too, maybe one where the kid goes back and forth between parents?
Totally stupid, but I love the way you wrote this post, and I got a total chuckle out of the idea. It's like a Regretsy idea, but on a bigger scale, and doesn't involve a dead pet or vajayjay theme.
Haahaha, I have literally had this in my "potential posts" file for awhile but have not had the balls to post it for the same reason...
As for the bed on the floor being bigger than the one on the wall-- if you look carefully, it's also thinner.
So I think that the green and the white piece are both doubled up (four pieces, rather than two.)
I have the perfect place for this, in a small room we've been wanting to make into a guest room. Moving vigorously would be acceptable if the matching faces have velcro on them. It would require a thicker, stiffer fabric, of course...like upholstery denim, for instance, or white pillow ticking or thin canvas.
I'd hide it behind a simple white curtain panel, suspended from a rod the same distance from the wall as the thickness of the mattress.
