Faced with an unfortunate bathroom, a lot of people immediately think of renovating. But if you're renting, or just on a tight budget, there is an easier way to elevate your bathing space: add a little art.

Here's another beautiful bathroom with old school tile. There's a wonderful contrast between the pink tile and the stark black and white photographs. They really change the tone of the space and give it a modern feel. Also from Lonny.

Or you could add some art between the mirror and the sink, as in this bathroom from Elle Decor Espana.

And finally, sure to be controversial... this portrait, hung on a bathroom window, pretty much eliminates the need for a shade entirely. From Peppermint Bliss.
