We have a new addition to our home—an 11-week-old French Bulldog puppy named Bacon—and he has us looking at our apartment in a whole new way...on all fours...

We spent weeks combing the internet for modern, simple (i.e. non-ugly) dog beds for our little guy and we found quite a few but mostly at a high price point. Before we could make a decision, Bacon made up his own mind that his favorite place to sleep is on the sheepskin under our Eames shell rocker. He also likes to run and play through/under our bent plywood Mag Table. He's got us thinking that maybe what we consider good design works just as well for puppies, too.
We'll have much more on life with Bacon during Pet Month here on AT. Has your pet adopted a piece of interior design as his own?

Shaw's Original Fir...
my cat, Pedro, LOVES my lap!
That is an adorable dog. I've always liked French bulldogs, though.
how cute!!! It's a little baby!!!
Oh my goodness what a cute little guy, I just want to squeeze him. And Bacon is a hot name. My Pug Greta likes to lay on anything that isn't her bed. Chair, sofa, bed, rug, lap... anything but the dog bed. She's fresh like that.
Awwww.
Yes, but nothing I'm very proud of. My cat loves a beat-up old armchair, esp the back, where she likes to sleep or just sit. I want to get rid of it, but I feel bad because she loves it so much. She also loves her flat, double-wide scratcher - it's kind of like her launching pad, which has become part of the interior design.
My dogs are primarily lap-lovers, but Bruno has his own Eames chair:

Fritz has a really nice round wood bed:

More pictures please!!
I almost forgot to mention how adorable Bacon is!! He's a sweetie, and I love his name.
He's adorable, but I can't help but notice a slight resemblance, in the second photo, to Brain of Pinky and the Brain: http://www.able2uk.com/pinky_brain.gif
soooooooo cute!!!!!!!
Oh Bacon, If only I could snuggle you!
My Inertia loves my favorite antique, I'm so glad shes not a claw-er

That is the sweetest French Bulldog ever!
My Maltese likes my hideous faux sheepskin chair from Ikea. Don't ask. I have no idea why I bought it. The chair, not the dog!
He is so sweet! Jager (pug) and Bailey (bichon/cocker) love to lay on top of the pillows that I stack on my couch....they both try to get up as high as possible.
Our pup (a small engligh bulldog) won't do dog beds. She pees on them or chews holes in them. The only thing she will tolerate is a plush crate liner and a blanket. She prefers laps anyway.
P.S. Bacon is super cute. We are lovers of Bullies- English and french alike!
Awwwww! Isn't Bruno the cutest puppy ever??
One of my 2 cats has adopted the back of a slipper chair as her bed. Gives her a high perch so she can look down upon the rest of the world! :)
Bacon is adorable. But, uh, he might find the wooden runners of your Eames RAR a real treat when he is teething!
Rufus the boston terrier sleeps on the couch for most of the day, plus he's got a bed upstairs, a bed downstairs, a pad on a bench in front of the window, our bed, etc.
Oops! Bacon not Bruno!! Sorry!
My cat Fellini used to love the claw-foot tub at my old apartment. She was super-shy and whenever anyone came over, she'd make a bee-line for the bathroom and hide-out under the tub with her stuffed Snoopy. She also spent half her day walking (very balanced!) around and around the big rolled edge of the tub too.
Our one Frenchie LOVES to stretch out on the chaise portion of our couch. His brother, however, is content to stuff himself in an itty bitty dog bed that was given to him.
Bacon is a DOLL.
More pictures!!! :D SO CUTE!
Saw on the news today a pound puppy rescued her new owner when she had numerous brain hemorages and after the first minor hemorage the amazing little doggy whined and licked her until she woke up and got herself to hospital!! Awwww pets. :)
I want a puppy now!! I'll just go next door to play with their new 5 week old moodle (maltese/poodle) Patch. Gorgeous!
bacon is super cute! it's funny how pets like furniture other than the ones you've purchased for them. my baby cockatiel, luca has a playgym. she would rather hang out on the coffee than her gym which sits on it. when I put her on the gym she would make a beeline for the ladder and climb down. it makes me wonder if I should've skipped the gym in the first place. or should I just remove the ladder.................
Congratulations! Bacon is adorable.
Our dog Pixie also likes our Ikea sheepskin. I saved a couple of thick seat cushions from the couch we replaced last year, and covered them with a slate-blue, velvet-ish contract fabric that I found at a discount fabric place on lower Broadway. Pixie likes those too. And she often chooses her crate at night, although she likes it better without a blanket or pillow. Go figure *shrug*
I bought a small dog bed for my large cat Oliver from LL Bean. What I like about it is that it has a removable cover that can be thrown in the washing machine. http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?page=premium-denim-dog-bed-set&categoryId=44559&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&parentCategory=7425&cat4=1170&shop_method=pp&feat=7425-tn&np=Y
Oliver loves it.
Our greyhound likes his corduroy lounger -- a dog bed also favored by the far-more-fastidious-than-I Jeff Lewis of Bravo's Flipping Out, as glimpsed in the episodes I guiltily gorged on last night.

oh, he is quite cute
and I'm loving his name...
Please, more pictures of Bacon! Is he on flickr?
My Carmen loves the Selig Z-Chair.

Hi Spins,
I recently got a Z chair, partially inspired by your Z/Carmen photo. Thanks.
Our three dogs -- two chihuahuas and a cocker spaniel/beagle mutt -- love a sofa-like dog bed my daughter bought and then gave to me. She brought it to shelter her elderly blind pug, but he prefers any piece of upholstered furniture (preferably a bed), and my dogs took over the sofa dog bed.
Bacon is too cute! Dogs are wonderful.
Bacon is very cute but where's that great pillow on the Eames rocker from please?
Awwww so sweet!
Bacon is adorable!
You have good taste.
Where is the puzzle pillow from? It looks like the logo from autism speaks, and I would like to purchase one.
Thanks.
Just brought in a little table from a relative's apt with the intention of taking to the thrift, but one of the cats claimed it. It has three open scrollwork sides. It had a folded quilt stored in it that made it like a little cat sized Chinese Opium Bed, which is the kind of bed I'd most like to have myself.
Congratulations on your new puppy! You should have a puppy shower!
Lenny, my crazy little pug/rat terrier mix, likes to lay cat-like on the back of my arm chair or sleep on my bed.
Julie, my beautiful black-and-white cat, prefers to hide in the corner of my husband's side of the closet.
I didn't even catch the name of the dog - Bacon - I love love it!
Be prepared to purchase a king sized bed (how can you not sleep next to such cuteness!). My partner and I have two 6 lb chihuahuas. We ended up upgrading from an expensive Select Comfort queen mattress to a much more expensive Select Comfort king mattress so that our dogs could stretch out and sleep comfortably. Anything for our babies . . . .
What a cute puppy! My dog has 2 Bowsers round dog beds. They come in various styles in great colors that you can get to fit in with your decor.

They're not cheap, but there really worth it! Enjoy Bacon...
Uh...they're
Those wondering about the pillow-- it looks like one of Galya Rosenfeld's designs. It's available in a few different colorways, and I've seen them at Branch, but I'd assume they're sold elsewhere as well.

Adorable puppy!
i've been lucky enough to have shared my life with a wonderful french bulldog for the last ten years.
they are the most charming and delightful little dogs.
you certainly have a very cute addition to your family.
my chief brody is content to sleep on our ikea anes bed. he's too big for anything else, even though he sometimes snuggles with me on our baumritter loveseats!
Ikea sheepskin on the Le Corbu chaise for my miniature pinscher.
It's the only reason I keep that iconic(read:cliche) chair around.
I wish I had pictures, but my dog Spencer (pitbull mix roughly 65 pounds) loves to nap on our coffee tables, both centrally located near windows.
Thank you all for your wonderful compliments (not that we can take credit for the cuteness). Bacon is indeed on Flickr, right here:

Also, our puzzle pillow came from Branch Sustainable Design where they have many more colorways - all beautiful. They're pricey so we only got the small one but it is adorable.

just last night a good friend of mine was telling me about how his girlfriend was doggie sitting for the most adorable 11 week old bulldog named Bacon.
Imagine my surprise to find him this morning on my daily apartmenttherapy readings!
He really is adorable, now i want one!
Bacon is so precious! I just want to nuzzle him and let him lick me all over my face!
Our puggle Chloe loves the floor cushions in our living room. She will carry either a bone or chew toy around in her mouth, whining and wimpering, until we position one to her liking so she (and her chewy of choice) can lay on it. Once she's in the perfect spot, she's content for hours on end, and we don't hear a peep from her until she's ready for a walk.
My cat has claimed my pashmina shawl. It's pink and she looks so cute on it that I've pretty much given it to her.
frenchies are the most stylish dogs ever... and Bacon is a brilliant name. I use to have a dog named Wendell and he looked great by an Eames chair.
Our 70-pound black lab has a giant dog bed that he actually sleeps on... when we're watching. When we're not home, he pretty much finds any soft spot in the house to sleep on, and pretends not to. We caught him scrunched up in a ball sleeping in the tiniest chair in our house at 3 am one time.... and looked at us as if to say "What? I'm not supposed to be here?!"
I am such a huge dog lover and I have a 9 year old yorkie named Snuggles and I spoiled him a wee bit and he has 3 beds but I was thinking of getting him something nicer so I'm in the same boat at the moment but it's not like he's complaining so I keep putting it off especially because of the prices out there.
Thanks for the info on the pillow Maxwell.
i have a smallish wicker basket that i put old ripped clothes in for her and she's quite happy there when not on my furniture.
I just looked at all the baby pictures of Bacon on the Flickr set - that is one cute little frenchie!
omg the cutest!
It's so nice to see a post about dogs. I think there are ten posts relating to cats for every post relating to dogs.
Love Bacon on Flickr. Especially this shot - http://flickr.com/photos/wesleyschwartz/2643371934/in/set-72157606016375043/
Will you be photographing Bacon eating bacon? I may swoon.
I recently got a Z chair, partially inspired by your Z/Carmen photo.
Very cool! Let's see a picture.
In my next life I want to come back as a pampered pet!!!
My Price like to lounge on the screened in porch.

Here is my cutie... doing his dead man pose

That is so adorable!
Just last week I saved a handsome 3-year-old Russian Blue cat through an emergency fostering for "Save-A-Kitty" and since my beloved Pharaoh passed in the winter, I'm happy to welcome the newly dubbed "Yorick" who's adjusting comfortably and who's christened the cushioned wicker chair his favorite nap spot. Wish I could figure how to attach the jpeg...
I've tried a few cat beds for my two girls Kelly and Coco but they end up on my bed. Coco's purrs constantly and I thought I would never get used to it but she is fifteen years old and now it's a lullaby for me....zzzzzzzzzz
I'll tell you something, Bacon has committed a felony, stealing hearts right and left. That photo of him just defeats your propose how can we consider anything else when he just takes front and center. It's not fair to people to have that little mug in our faces!!!!
just a warning: don't let bacon into your bed. frenchies are the cuddliest little dogs ever and it will be impossible to ever get him out! (we just had to "sleep train" our frenchie out of the bed, and it was much harder on us than on him!)
enjoy his puppyhood. and for those of you who have frenchie yearnings, please research and find a responsible breeder, as they are horribly overbred and often imported as sick little pups. (/end psa).
Little baby is adorable!
But when your sweet pup starts chewing in month or so you may want to just get him something pretty basic for sleeping. He'll rip it to sheds. Young dogs need to chew, and they will go for pretty much anything they can find, including good shoes, first edition books, and beautiful carpets. You might want to pick up the sheepskin and get something chew-proof for the next couple of years. Then, when he's a little older, restore the sheepskin. For now, go for something like LL Bean, sturdy, made of canvas. He'll chew it, but you won't care so much.
While you're at it, rawhide bones, lots and lots of rawhide bones. And exercise! Young dogs need more to burn off their excess energy.
Enjoy him. When he's grown up a bit you'll be so happy you've put in the energy and time.
My lab mix Gus likes his LL Bean dog bed. However, the sizing chart is off, go a size smaller. But what does he like better? The couch. Oh, and a pile of sheets that are on the floor getting ready to make the move to the laundry room. He loves to sleep on those.
My pug has declared my lap his throne.
Bacon is such a cutie!!!!
Awww...sooo cute! Our chihuahua loves to sleep on our sheepskin, too - and she likes to "burry" her bones there! We also got her this burrow bed cuz she likes to sleep under the covers.
