Providence’s steep hills offer some killer views, and this residence designed by Friedrich St. Florian Architects takes full advantage of them. We’re not surprised that Rhode Island Monthly chose it as the winner of its 2009 Design Awards.

The contemporary structure is certainly different from the many historic homes and buildings that dot College Hill, but it doesn’t feel out of place in the diverse neighborhood that includes the campuses of Brown and RISD. The house is designed with a contemporary sense of restraint, but the soaring windows that look out on the state capitol keep the city's rich architectural history in plain view.

Was this the residence that featured in Scorsese's "The Departed"? There were similar views of the capitol in key scenes in that film.

It certainly does remind me of that view, but the apartment in The Departed was overlooking the Massachusetts State House and this home is in Rhode Island.

This is the type of view I can soak in of Providence. Puts the city at its best. Don't think the chair looks too comfortable, though.
