Shaker Wall Clock Kit from Shaker Workshops

F322-1.jpg

Have you ever bought and assembled a kit product? We were struck by the beautiful cherry wood in this Shaker clock. The clock's clean lines would make it a fit for a variety of home styles from eclectic to traditional to modern. And we were also intrigued by the idea of ordering the clock as a kit and saving this much money...

You save $172 by putting the clock together yourself, not to mention the satisfaction of...putting the clock together yourself. (Premade, $345 compared to Kit, $172.50).

If you've bought a "kit" product before, how was your experience?

Ha! My dad bought one of these when I was a kid. I remember him putting it together. It's still up in my parent's house. He put a piece of glass in the rectangle, so you can see the pendulum go back and forth.

I've bought a few kits from Shaker Workshops. The clock might be easier, but their furniture kits are real woodworking products. They provide the rough-sanded parts and you do all the finish work to make them fit together. (Things like the bent wood backs of ladderback chairs are pre-assembled.) Making my writing desk took a lot of patience and more carpentry tools than I had - long clamps and such - so my uncle finished the project for me. I managed to do the rocking chair myself.

I love their furniture, though. And the clock kit would be a fun project.

Very nice clock. And to think, some fools spend years in Horology school to learn how to build these. Coulda saved the time and frustration and just bought a kit. :)
