10 Serene Spaces

While I’m usually not a minimalist, the gloomy weather and the looming holiday frenzy have made me long for calm, light-filled spaces like the incredible black bathroom I photographed this week for an upcoming house tour. If there is such a thing as vicarious rest & relaxation, staring at these monochromatic, simply adorned rooms would be it.

The only one that interests me is the first one, the dark tile bathroom with the white tub, and sadly there are no more pics for the rest of that bathroom. What gives? The other's Not really my style.

minimalist does not serene make. although i do really like the bedroom from Kimberly's renovated loft.

Minimalism alone can have a stark effect. Done well with some softness from fabric and harmonious color can be quite serene. I especially like 1, 4, 7, 8.

I hate the 1st, 5th & 6th ones... They are too sterile... reminds me of something that would be in the Saw movies. Maybe I'm weird (probably), but they give me a weird vibe. I really like the other ones though, especially number 7 & 8. Maybe I just like warmer colors if it's going to be a minimalist style.

Not really seeing how these spaces tie together, nor how they are "serene."

As japanhathaway notes, minimalism does not necessarily equal serenity. And as Lafferteezy notes, minimalism actually can have the opposite effect, making one feel on edge. Minimalism can be downright ominous, IMO!

The photo I like best is number 7, which is the least minimalist/monochromatic, what with all those colored pillows, colored pots, yellow dangly thing, etc... it has at least as much color as some of the more dubious AT Color Contest finalists!

The first one is just depressing. It looks like something from an old sanatorium.

love the first one, but would add some texture like a cozy rug some green plants. I like my bathrooms to look a bit sterile because it feels very clean and sanitized. No where for dirt and germs to hide LOL

Serenity equals institutional look? We think not.

8 is my favorite. However the first one's tub is just so disgustingly dirty
