Chrome Shower Basket Storage

showercaddy3.jpg

We've finally had it with those bathroom storage shelves with suction cups that just don't stay up! Ok, so yes we do put some heavy things in them, but after re-suctioning our lilting corner wire baskets for the gazillionth time, we gave up and replaced them with a more permanent (and stylish!) solution. Our new shower caddy took only a few minutes to install with a tile drillbit, and now we wish we had done this years ago...

Inspired by this post that Jonathan wrote a few years ago, we ordered a heavy-duty chrome shower basket that screws permanently into our tile wall. We're thrilled because the rack is now rock solid, even filled with our admittedly on-the-large-side collection of shampoos etc. We borrowed IKEA Grundtal S-hooks and clips from our kitchen to hang a washcloth and bath gloves, then added a white ceramic silverware basket (the one that Kyle has in her kitchen) to hang a razor in — we even drilled a hole in the bottom so that water can drain out from its bottom.

We weren't familiar with the Concinnity brand, but this stainless steel caddy is heavy and high-quality and includes mounting hardware that even conceals the screws. We're so happy at how organized this has made our shower, especially after also picking up a few label-free bottles for our shampoos. These particular shower baskets are usually really expensive, but are on sale for 75- 88% off, so they end up being cheaper than the similar-looking suction-cup versions from the Container Store we just took down.

it looks great. im hesitant to put one up because of the cleaning issue, any tips on how to keep all those bars, and the area around the screw clean? is it unavoidable to have to wipe them down after every use?

Very nice! Thanks for the tip! Those suction baskets do suck because they do not suck :)

lol my suction shower accessories totally stick...so no complaints there. but this does look nice! although most renters would lose a nice little chunk of their deposit for drilling holes in the tile.... and im curious to know...why the label free bottles for your products? i like all the color the bottles usually bring....just sayin ;)

This is a great idea. We have a really clumsy chrome basket that hangs on the shower head and looks awful. I think I’m going to do something like this. I also like the look of the plain bottles, although I don’t see myself refilling regularly – especially at the rate my long-haired husband goes through shampoo and conditioner.

This looks so nice and clean! I hate those suction cup things! But like others, I'm in a rental... and my shower is marble, I'm thinking that drilling holes wouldn't go over well. Sad.

I have the same problem here, so was it hard to drill into the tile without cracking it? I love the hooks and ikea ceramic cup, very nice additions.

would love to know more about how the drilling went down!

I love it, but what to do in a shower-surround that's fiberglass? Can you screw into that?

Nevis, this is the only good thing about a fiberglass surround... yep you can drill into it. Easily in fact.

I think you'd want to try and locate a stud to drill into (the fiberglass is thin, and might buckle a bit if holding the weight alone).

we just have the kind that hangs on the shower head and it works fine. we have a nicer one in the guest bathroom that stay put perfectly in satin, and then a crappy one in ours that need replacing because it was crappy and cheap (3.99 and lasted 5 years) and it slips all the time, not off but enough to scare you in the morning.

I don't see how the full price of 180 could be justified for a freakin shower basket. I mean seriously people, do you have money trees i don't know about?

@Kathryn

I am so glad you put that on here for us newbies! Thanks, it looks so much better than all the different bottles too. Love it! I'm going to go switch my stuff over immediately seeing as all my shampoos have to sit on a window sill in the shower...

I used to have a chrome caddy that hung over the shower head that was always shifting and slipping. It was cheap and also rusted easily. I bought a nicer one and instead of hanging it from the shower head I put a screw w/ washer into the drywall just above my tub surround on the opposite wall and hung it from that. Works well. (My only beef is that this pricey caddy claimed to be rust proof and it's rusting! I can't return it either because I bought it at Linens n' Things!)

I've been looking for one of these FOREVER! I have one of those over-the-showerhead caddies, but I'm short, the showerhead is mounted quite high and I HATE getting sprayed in the face while fumbling for conditioner.

The shorter 13" wide version would be perfect mounted on the wall opposite the showerhead. Yay!

@sunan i think they are for exfoliating?

We have a fiberglass stall for our shower that we cannot drill into (the entire shower comes out in one piece...our bathroom is so small it's actually a shower designed for a boat!) I can't find one of those shower caddies that doesn't rust! Anyone have any clues?
