Possibly the greatest tiny shop in Boston, Black Ink is located in both Beacon Hill and Harvard Square with a sister store — The Museum of Useful Things (affectionally called The MUT) — in Cambridge. Black Ink is one of those irresistible shops we just can't pass by. With a highly diverse collection packed floor to ceiling, they are sure to have something you had no idea you needed...

Black Ink is the epitome of eclectic shopping, offering a little bit of absolutely everything from children's books to TinTin toys, modern pottery to cookbooks, and pet supplies to alternative jewelry.

Our favorite aspect of both Black Ink stores and the Museum of Useful Things is their petite scale and fabulous space management. Its the ultimate Small Cool of retail in Boston. Check them out in Boston and Cambridge.

Love love love Black Ink, and they are by far the best source I've found for great cards around here. I'm sad to say that the M.U.T. store (loooove) closed about 6 months ago. It's an Upper Crust pizza now. They moved a lot of the best-sellers over to Black Ink, though.

It's true, I always end up buying something there. They carry some great greeting cards. I bought my first baggu there, love that, and I've bought lots of soap there, oddly. It's just a fun store obviously run by people who have a good eye for cool products.

I love their greeting card selection!
I always find something cute, like sushi stickers or a little button, to put in the card or attach to the envelope.

Lots of other fun stuff, too!

The MUT hasn't disappeared completely...they've just "moved" entirely online: http://themut.com. I really miss the shop, though. Great stuff. Thankfully, Black Ink is still around.

The Museum of Useful things (the sister store to Black Ink) did close its doors back in January 2008, but they still have an online store at http://themut.com/ for what it's worth.

I love all the Tintin items they have. A lot of things are pricey, but they also have tons of little toys and knicknacks for under $5. Great for gifts.
