Colorful Wool Blankets from L.L. Bean
Boston

11_Product_Blanket1.jpgWe've had some cold nights lately and its got us excited about fall and, specifically, cozy blankets. We're big fans of fleece and wool blankets for curling up on a crisp fall night and these colorful pieces from L.L. Bean are a good place to start...

Something about the retro feel of these Hudson blankets makes us smile (and want to take a nap). Check out the other colors here.

I also love these Native American Patterned Blankets.

The multicoloured one is an honoured "Hudson's Bay" blanket. I guess "The Bay" doesn't have the copyright on the design!

PS - It can be seen among many other places, here, in a historical context. Cheers. (Scroll down)

ellakelly - l.l. bean isn't selling copies - those are actual Hudson's Bay blankets. l.l. bean is probably a u.s. distributor.

I believe Hudson's Bay is now a US company as it was bought out by Lord & Taylor. Sadly, after about 320 years, it's no longer Canadian owned.

It's weird to see one of our most recognizable design icons being sold by an American chain, and touted here as just a colourful blanket. To Canadians this blanket is equivalent to maple syrup or the mountie.

By the way, "The Bay" (as The Hudson's Bay Company was known until recently), the first and also last of the Canadian dep't store chains, was just bought last month by Lord & Taylor.

(Kayla here) Sorry, wasn't trying to disguise the fact that this is the Hudson Bay blanket. As someone who rarely sees things from L.L. Bean that strike her fancy, this blanket caught me by surprise. If L.L. Bean plans to move in this direction, I think it would be a welcome, refreshing change for the American retailer...

Lidsville, thanks for providing the history link!

Unless I'm very mistaken, Bean has been selling the Bay blanket for years...had one as a child that was already a family heirloom (and I'm not even Canadian). But yes -- they are both beautiful AND warm!

What they forgot to mention is that real Hudson's Bay blankets are $400 (for the Queen size)....not exactly in everone's price-range. I have one, but I'm also I Canadian who loves the history and... I didn't pay for it.

Like others said--Hudson Bay Company--they are authentic. They are popular as horse blankets (special way of folding them in front with another blanker over it to secure). Got one for my horse, who ended up not needing it in the winter because he'd stay pretty warm with his lighter blanket.

It became my blanket throughout college and kept me very warm and cozy. If I were to get another one, it would be the classic striped one. They are great blankets.

That is pure Canadiana for me...I don't have one, and I've decided just now, this minute, that I need one.

Make no mistake-- these are not the Hudson Bay blankets that used to get made. I don't think the quality is as good. I am still holding out for a financial windfall to justify myself getting a Swans Island blanket: http://www.swansislandblankets.com/index.html
