Survey: What Else Do You Do In Bed?
Boston

IMG_4600.jpg

We’ve been bed-bound for the last few days with a nasty cold. Which gives us a chance to catch up on our magazines. The recent edition of Boston Home magazine included an entertaining article about the author’s relationship with her bed. And it got us wondering about the myriad activities, besides the obvious (get your mind out the gutter) that people use their beds for…

Admittedly we’re pretty predictable in our use of bed but as we’ve spent the last couple days here, we’re realizing that the afternoon sun that pours in the bedroom window might make our bed a good spot for late-in-the-day laptop work.

How about you? What else do you do in bed, besides the obvious?

I read books and I read blogs on my laptop. No eating, ever!

ADORBEL FURBABY ALERT!!!!

I snorgle* with my 2 puppers in my bed all the time! Other than that I just sleep and do the other obvious activity there.

*Snorgle = Snort Snuggle. Summarizes the situation when you moosh your face into a fuzzy wuzzy smoochie wiggle and make googoo noises.

My bed is reserved for sleeping and what Kyle refers to as "mind in the gutter." I learned this when I was much younger, when I'd sometimes have trouble falling asleep.

Did somebody mention 5 a.m. worrying?

Yeah, beds are just for sleeping and sex. You have to condition your body to know that bed=sleep. I've never had much trouble falling asleep, and even now while I am recovering from surgery, I spend most of my time on the couch.

I cuddle with my kitty, watch TV, talk on the phone and read.

Yeah you really need to use your bed for just those two things. I too had trouble sleeping as a kid and once I learned bed = sleep I fall asleep much easier.

I second the others with the two things only. the only exception is that I do occasionally read in bed in the mornings. sometimes on the weekend I wake up and I'm just not ready to leave the bed so I'll read a book for a while.

when I'm sick I always make the effort to move to the couch. I find that being out of the bedroom and taking a shower and washing my hair makes me feel better.

I live in a studio, so bed=couch=bed.
No wonder I have insomnia!

I used to use my bed for everything...studying, tv watching, reading, writing...pretty much everything but eating (unless it was breakfast in bed), but I try not to do that anymore. I may carry my laptop to bed once in a while, but I try not to crawl into bed until I'm ready to actually sleep.

I was surprised crafts was an option but not reading.

I read, but that's pretty much it. Occasionally, I'll watch TV, but since I try not to watch TV right before sleeping, so I've purposely put my TV in a place that's hard to see from the bed (I live in a studio).

Oh, and on Saturday mornings, I've been known to drink a cup of coffee and talk on the phone while propped on the pillows. Good times.

Read, use the laptop (both business and personal reasons, though I try to avoid working that close to bedtime), watch tv, and listen to my dog snore.

Sex under optimal conditions, but those are a bit rare these days. :)

i used to get dressed in bed when it was cold. or even get dry in bed after a morning shower when it was REALLY cold. but apart from the normal, reading, watching tv, playing ds, cudderling the dogs, cudderling my husband, and nothing that involves crums/ glitter/ anything that could annoy u once ur actually tryin to sleep in it.

I live in a studio, so my bed functions as a couch, a place to read, a place to talk on the phone, (occasionally) a place to eat, a place to draw, a place to watch movies, a place to throw my laundry, and... oh yes... occasionally I do sleep on it. I must be lucky (or maybe just exhausted) because I have no trouble falling asleep!

My bed is NOT comfortable so sleep is all I do when I can. For people that read themselves to sleep . . . I would suggest better books.

Sometimes on weekend mornings I'll sometimes bring in the laptop, cellphone, mail and breakfast, prop myself up on the pillows and get caught up on the news, e-mail, bills, etc. while planning my day - I call it "Working From Bed".

I also use it as the place where I fold/hang my clean laundry - pack for vacations - and of course the obvious.

(tho I enjoy afternoon naps on the living room sofa too)

Dog cuddling, crossword working, Sunday newspaper reading, novel perusing . . . it's my comfy sanctuary from the world.

reading and snorgling (i'm so stealing that word, Monica!!) with my pup pups when it's "night night". i used to have a tv but when i moved to my new place, i promptly sold it on craigs.

it's so much nicer to wind down and get ready for bed when i have my fur babies and a good book. :)

I live in an apartment with 4 other people, so my bed is my lone private space. So I'm pretty much in my bed all the time, but I try to stay on top of the covers until it is time to sleep.

But this weekend I move into my new place, so I will have my own living room and dinging room! No more will I be chained to my bed. :)

animalhouze, the term "snorgling" was coined over at one of my other favorite websites evah: www.cuteoverload.com. They have a whole glossary here: http://www.squidgrid.com/cute/Glossary.htm

Have fun...it's a very anerable website and you'll be barfing rainbows after looking at all the cuteness!

kat1- please don't tell me to treat my bed with respect. There are very few things I can say this about: it is here to serve my needs, not the other way around. I like breakfast in bed, watching movies, reading, whatever.

Sleep and sex.

I'll read in bed too sometimes, but I'll only get a few pages in before I'm conked out. My bed is wonderfully comfortable and my husband and I are conditioned to know that bed = sleep. Wouldn't have it any other way. :)
