Best Product: Pure Beech Modal Sheets

01_05_Sheets1.jpg

Few things are as delightful as sliding into clean, soft sheets and, as focus shifts to the bedroom here on AT, we thought this bedding basic was a great place to start. We first discovered Pure Beech modal sheets over 6 years ago while looking for simple, affordable bedding at Bed, Bath & Beyond — little did we know we would fall in love, and with a eco-friendly material, too! Not only are they amazing to sleep on, these sheets are produced in accordance with ecological standards and sustainability, and contain no pesticides or toxic substances...

Exclusive to Bed, Bath & Beyond, Pure Beech sheets are sustainably derived from the Beechwood tree in Europe and come in two texture variations. The 100% modal version is the more expensive — $69.99 for a full size set — and feels supple and silk-like without sacrificing any softness or warmth. If your preference is for a more formal looking sheet with a slight sheen then the Sateen sheets are for you. There is also a Jersey Knit — $49.99 for a full size set — which is a 70% modal / 30% cotton blend. While this sheet is delightfully soft, warm and a bit stretchy, the majority modal keeps it super light and much more refined than cheaper T-shirt style sheets.

We own three sets of Pure Beech sheets — two Jersey Knit and one Sateen — and love rotating between the textures. The Jersey Knit is light, fun and incredibly snuggly while the Sateen's lack of stretch makes it a bit more serious though no less soft. Our only warning is don't put the sheets in the dryer on high heat (the cotton setting) because we have had a seam come undone on a pillowcase. This is stated on the packaging (which we didn't read until after washing) and should be followed. Simply wash on regular and dry on medium and you should be all set!

i found that the jersey knit sheets pilled after a few washings. maybe the sateen are better.

I have a set and they are so soft!

The top sheet easily bunches up though.

I had the same problem as fardaesm for the jersey and noticed after a year there were little holes in sheets. I used these in the spare bedroom so they weren't getting washed as often as my normal sheets so I dont know how long they would last as everyday sheets.

I've had these for years and recommend them to everyone. The colors stay very true over time too, I've had very little fading.

They're soft, but I don't like the way they bunch. I like the cool smoothness of 100% cotton!

I have the sateen version and love them. I've had no issues with them pilling but the top sheet is difficult to keep in place as someone else mentioned.

The jersey ones pill pretty badly. I loved them at the store but hated them within weeks. Now I'm tempted to try the sateens. I know I really want linen sheets but $$...

I've been using these sheets for years -- I LOVE them! My sets did start to pill, so I decided to put them on inside out every once in a while and the pilling seemed to stop/soften up. I had a set for my college dorm xl twin too; I added some batting and made into a small blanket when I moved out!

In the past, I have had bad experiences buying what I thought were good quality sheets and they turned out not to be because of the pilling, and fading problems I encountered. If you do your research and look around you’ll find the tried and true companies like SDH linens who have been around a long time and have a great reputation. Yes their products cost more BUT they hold up their color, shape and softness. They will last you a very long time. I bought my Modal sheets from http://www.elegantlinenspc.com/Modal-Sheets.htm. Their site is very informative about all the pure, natural SDH products. You should check them out.

I am OBSESSED with these sheets!!!!
I have been using them for about 7 years - have several different colors and have turned almost everyone I know onto them. I have even sewn 2 flat sheets together to make a duvet cover so I can be completely wrapped in the softness! They get softer and softer everytime you wash them - a characteristic of beechwood fibers - and the colors stay beautiful.

I have purchased two sheets of the "modal sateen sheets" and love using them, but they pill and seem to flake off lint. What causes this and what can be done to prevent it? I have little balls of fuzz on my carpet.
