We received a book store gift certificate for Christmas so we're in the market for an inspiring design book. We just spotted this one in the current issue of Metropolitan Home. Tiny Houses by Mimi Zeiger focuses on sustainable modular and pre-fab homes under 1000 square feet. The book won't be released until March 24, 2009 so we haven't looked inside yet. Has anyone had an insider's peek at this book? If you could buy one design book with our gift certificate what would it be?...
Some might argue that 1000 square feet hardly qualifies as tiny. A couple years ago AT posted about a book called Tiny, Tiny Houses that profiles homes under 325 square feet.

While we're intrigued by this book, we tend to be drawn to books that focus more on accessible and eclectic interior design than architectural structure. With that in mind, we'd love your recommendation for your favorite design inspiration book.
My pick is Domestic Art: Curated Interiors by Holly Moore. A beautiful, inspiring look at some amazing, personal and unique homes. You can spend hours looking through it and still not see every detail. It's fabulous.

I guess 1000 sf would qualify as tiny if you raised two kids in it. Otherwise, I'd say it's merely small. I guess if it's under 300 it can be tiny tiny... LOL I give up.

The graphic designer in me will always read that book cover as "House Tiny."
As far as books, one of my faves is still Vicente Wolf's "Learning to See."
And of COURSE, "Apartment Therapy Presents: Real Homes, Real People, Hundreds of Design Solutions." :)

The cover of that book for some reason reminded me of one of the most charming children's books I've ever read, "Andrew Henry's Meadow" by Doris Burn. In fact, thinking about that book makes me realize it's the perfect book for any AT-ers who are parents. It's about a boy who builds treehouses and forts for all his friends that are suited to their individual personalities.

The architect who designed the house on the cover is Tom Kundig... his own book is Tom Kundig:Houses, edited by Dung Ngo. Even though it's technically an architecture book, the interior details are really inspiring, and the photography is beautiful. There's a lot of re-purposing of materials, different approaches to hardware, etc. that encourage me to look at all materials beyond their prescribed function.
