We're visual people so before we purchase anything major for our home — couch, bed, curtains — we usually mock it up on the computer to make sure it'll work in our space. This is easy to do if you have Photoshop but for the not-so-savvy user there's a delightful photo-compilation website called Polyvore that does the grunt work and allows you to assemble your own custom sample boards with a simple drag and drop...

This is an example of a quick sample board we put together during our search for a couch and curtains for our new living room. If you know how to silhouette images in Photoshop then its a snap but Polyvore does the manipulation for you.

Simply install the Polyvore button into your browser's toolbar and it will clip images from anywhere on the web and save them into your library. Then just drag and drop the images from your library onto a canvas to create custom idea boards. If anyone has ever used Wist or other gift compilation sites, it functions much the same. Give it a test run and tell us how it goes!
Those lights are so pretty - where are they from?

Kayla here -
I created that sample board by using the "stock" images in Polyvore. Simply search the word "home" and you'll find all of the images you see at the top of the post and also where those images came from (a mix of online magazines and stores).
I forgot to mention that when you drop images into your library, Polyvore stores the website information so that you can easily access the original site where you found that product/image.
Happy clicking!

Wists are really great also. I have been keeping one for months now just to bookmark things I like. However, you can't group things on a sheet like that.

polyvore's the best. I don't think you can upload images directly, but you can use photobucket to put your own images into its database. The only thing that's really sad is that it can't get images from etsy for some reason.

Wow, we're honored that you featured Polyvore here on Apartment Therapy! Thank you!
Btw, you can embed your Polyvore sets in your blog posts by clicking the "Embed this set" link on the set page. It'll retain a link back to Polyvore so that people can see where all the items in the set came from.

Whytephoenix, really?!
I was just thinking how perfect that would be for my home, if only it were green. Where did you get yours, and is there a link to it online somewhere?

The lights are to-die-for! I saw the same lights, or at least remarkably similar lights on Remodelista. Here's the link: http://www.remodelista.com/2008/11/07/lighting-vintage-cage-lights/
