Name: Meg & Dave
Location: Arlington, MA
Type of Home: rented apartment
What inspired you to use color? As with many rental units, we moved into a beige boring box without a drop of color to speak of. With an array of colorful artwork and accessories, I can instantly add personality to my space and make it a place to call home......and if I'm lucky a few cans of paint helps pull it all together...
Color Tip: Tear pictures from home design mags that you really like and put them in a file. Later revisit the pictures and you will find that they tend to have a common theme in color and style.
Colors Used: Living Room Benjamin Moore, Pale Smoke Dining Room: Benjamin Moore,Britannia Blue Nursery: Sherwin Williams, Tansy Green
Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------
Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...
1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide
The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.
2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop
Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.
Best, Maxwell

I really like this. Your home is colorful but subtly so. From what I can see, the colors flow beautifully from room to room.

Am I crazy or is that an original Rothko on the wall?
Regardless, the home is very well put together, absolutely gorgeous.

Seeing this made me realize what makes an entry really special: depth and balance. Balance in that everything is harmonious and depth in that all the elements express the inhabitants and make us want to see and know more. Great home.

Absolutely beautiful! Your dining room is worthy of a magazine cover. Lovely colors, they complement each other well. This one is by far my favorite. Great job!

beautiful home...I would love to see the exterior!

Very nicely done. I especially like the art in the kitchen with grey wall. Grey is a difficult paint color to work with, both in choosing the shade and the placement. You nailed it!

I love this space. It's such a "committment" to choose colors and these choices are something I would never get tired of. Very well done. This is my favorite!

I love how "real" this place feels. Love the palette, too. Livable, colorful, and not overproduced. What a nice home. :-)

Definitely doesn't look like a rental anymore...Love it!!

@Amelia: No one with a real Rothko would put one of those spotlights on it. Those create terrible hot spots. Light and heat are the enemies of pigment, canvas, and paper. One tiny super-hot spot on a piece of art? Bad Idea.

I usually debate with my wife that form and function don't go hand in hand, but your apartment deflates my argument! :-) Your space is elegant and livable. Great work.

Hi Meg here. "Jezebella" is right.......not a real Rothko if there was still any doubt, but I wish it was!!! Thanks for the great comments though.

I love the baby's room, too. Where did you get the curtains?

Thanks! I made the shades from IKEA fabric-by-the-yard. It is the "katarina" fabric

The Rothko copy is from Crate and Barrel about 5 years ago.....I bought the floor sample as it was their last one.

I LOVE your apartment! the beautiful old wood trim throughout gives your home a warm relaxed feel. The neutral colors you have chosen add to that feel. Yet, each room includes modern accent colors and wonderful contemporary fabrics which breath new life and an element of surprise! The moon light and clock in the baby's room is a darling way to mimic the moon print on display! You have done a Fabulous job with your home!

This is such a comfortable and chic look! The colors are very pleasing to the eye and offers such a cozy, warm feel to each room. At the same time everything looks so "fresh" and "crisp" I love it! Very good color scheme and use of accent colors as well. Beautiful home!
