East #52: Andrea's Anti-White

fallcolors3.jpgName: Andrea
Location: Rochester, NY
Type of Home: colonial (new build)
What inspired you to use color? New houses have always left me rather cold, so when we found ourselves in this one, I became inspired by our beautiful view of rolling hills and farm lands. Fall colors have always been a favorite and we had the house painted before moving in based on a slipcover that I had used on a chair. Some colors have changed over the last few years but the ones that we had since the beginning worked beautifully and we never had to live with "builders white".

Color Tip: It is hard to get inspired looking at a wall of paint chips. Look for things that you love or make you just feel good. Paint colors can always be matched to the inspiration, not the other way around.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome,

everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking

for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and

hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages

under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT

as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one

another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

These colors rise above trendy, I just love them. I can just imagine being at that counter where I can see the three different colors defining separate spaces. It's very pleasing and relaxing. The opportunities for accessories are limitless with these choices. Thanks for sharing.

I love these colors. It is easy to imagine the rolling hills Andrea describes, especially this time of year. Also like the lengths she's gone to disguise a recently constructed home so well!

Wonderful color palette Andrea. I especially love the 'pop' of the aqua wall against the more calming fall colored backdrop of plum and burnt orange. Accessories integrate perfectly with just the right amount of texture and shine. Great look!

Andrea's sense of color is faultless. She knows exactly which tints and hues to choose to highlight a room's special features or to downplay an awkward layout or problem spot. She has added warmth and interest to every corner of her house by her adventurous color choices.

The pictures posted by Andrea are beautiful. The colors she has chosen bring out a very warm and calm feeling. If the pictures can bring out this wonderful visual, I can only imagine how great the colors are when seeing them in person. Great job, Andrea!!
