What inspired you to use color? I’m inspired by my interest in reusing and refurbishing vintage items and the work of other designers — whether print, architecture, art, interiors, or fashion. I choose colors using instinct, rather than any grand scheme, believing the best combinations happen accidentally. I use color to keep my house feeling bright and fresh without being distracting, a balance between comfort and creativity...

Color Tip: Never be afraid to take chances with color, there is no right and wrong and no rules.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

Love the way the dinette table looks with the Eames chairs, what a great idea! I don't love the white living room, but the other colors and furniture pieces are great.

I love the natural tones in the living room - the browns and reds - along with the cool, green tones. There's a great flow to all this...the colors and the furniture work so well together, but it's also perfectly ecclectic! Love that green hallway!

Has a lot of fun color in this house.

Nice place - congratulation!

As FilmEditor said... gorgeous felt carpets! Can I ask where you got them?

I liked the light blue combined with the bright red in the living room. I agree with earlier commenters about stealing the couch -- I'm also in line.

Am I the only one who noticed that a piece seems to be chewed out of the green carpet? Hey, a lot of people have pets, and as in English country style, keep using the furnishings despite the wear. It's a thrifty practice, and can convey a certain jauntiness. Heaven knows my floor coverings are far from perfect! However, the picture could have been framed or cropped to eliminate it. In a MCM style, it's a distraction in an otherwise pretty shot.

Eclectic, and unique. Great use of retro and vintage elements. Good compliment color choices. Definitely not afraid of bold design coupled with strong color accented furniture. A harmonious blend of old and new.

Well done.

Thank you for sharing.

Way late - but in response to lsb and AustinSarah and bprophs - the carpets are "Fedora" by FLOR, and the corner isn't chewed - it's a decoratively cut corner. The fabric above the couch is vinatge marimekko stapled to stretcher bars.
