Location: Fairfield, CT
Type of Home: Cape

What inspired you to use color? When my husband and I bought our home, we immediately saw it's potential. The house was over 60 years old and it was quiet evident very few updates had been done during its history. We wanted to use color to wake up the true nature of the house and bring warmth to it. We wanted our home to bring us comfort the moment we walked in and the use of color has allowed us to achieve our goal...

Color Tip: Don't be afraid! Get samples and put on the wall or on poster board and live with it for a week. If you feel the color you love just doesn't work on your walls, try a different shade in the same family. Color brings a certain energy to your home and you will not regret using it. After all it's just paint and it can always be changed!

Colors Used: Japanese fern, Matisse Gold

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

That is some bright green! But it actually looks really cool with the rest of the room - the furniture and rug tie it together nicely. And I love the tile on the countertop!

Hurray for Cape dwellers! Do you mind telling the source for your living room rug?

I like the wall color, but in this setting, it seems too neon. I concur with the opinion on the rug. The differnt patterns in each block make it a very interesting piece. The pillows on the couch are similar to some pillow covers I have from IKEA, but I don't see an IKEA influence here. Pray tell, where are they from?

We painted the bedroom in our old apartment Fern Green! The windows directly faced the building next door (2 feet apart) and the green made up for zero natural light. The bedspread was an orange-pink paisley....with a white theme throughout. No I don't think this combination would work anywhere outside of that bedroom, but the green works well in your space.

For all who want to know, my very talented sister designed the rug. She is a textile designer with her own line coming out in the near future: Malene B.

Thanks for all of the comments about the rug! I'm the designer sister Debbie mentioned....It's one of my favorite designs. Thanks to my sister she created the perfect room so the rug could have a home. Your place looks really cool online! www.maleneb.com

I love, love, looooooove the colors and the ecclectic mix of traditional and modern! It's not easy to pull of that combination, but you totally did it here! MaleneB - I totally want a rug like that!
