East #8: Gigistephiez's Color with Conscience

10-2-fc08-bo-8.jpg

fallcolors4.jpgName: gigistephiez
Location: Chelmsford, MA
Type of Home: new victorian style
What inspired you to use color? originally the beach — i love turquoise, different shades of blue. but i love color in general so i use strong colors as well. they contrast beautifully. i'm still in the process of decorating our new house and we soo need furniture so this contest is perfect!!!...

Color Tip: don't be afraid of it! but if you are still hesitant and go with neutrals, pick a focal wall and choose a color for it (be a bit daring). then work off of it in your accessories(curtains, pillows, artwork etc).

Colors Used: since i am earth conscious i went with a company called bioshield.i used a dark (greek easter egg looking)red for our dining room it contrasts beautifully with the turquoise hall/kitchen area, a royal purple for our bedroom, since it's a large room it works well. it's a matte purple and i intent to paint a mural in the same color but it's a glaze so i hope the effect will be unique. lime coconut in my son's playroom which play nicely with the turquiose blue in the living room. which by the way is actually 3 different colors total. i am still in the process of painting our rooms — so i still have butter yellow, eagle's eye (smoky blue) a clay paint i can't wait to experiment with that's a beautiful shade of greyish blue. i have a habit of mixing my colors so they are very custom.

The bedroom is the best. Purple & black! So great. I think I have the same nightstand as you & I'm totally painting it black.

I have been looking for a mirror like this EVERYWHERE. The only ones I have found are white...and 600 dollars. Can anyone tell me where I can get a similar one to the black one shown here?

Love that plant. Please tell me what it is so I can get one!

The plant is a striped tradescantia or wandering jew. (A friend of mine calls it diaspora to be politically correct.) Very easy to grow in mostly-bright light, but it can get leggy, so pinch the tips if it gets too long, put the cutting in water, and then you get a new plant!

I like the sofa. Use what you like and to heck with everybody else!

Now that's what I'm talking about! Love it. Too bad most people like to vote for all the homes that already have all the cool furniture.

I love the colors! I think in terms of deserving to win because then you can buy new furniture, you make a good point...rather than rewarding the people who already have the resources to make their homes perfect, its better to reward the people who show great promise who just need new furniture. I think with the right furniture & details to compliment the gorgeous wall colors, this house could be stunning.

Its a great start!

I like the first picture best, with the single chair and plant. The wall color on that pictue is drool-worthy.
The bedroom is also very darring and spunky.

I don't like the flowered couch, mostly because there is some sort of flowered artwork above it, either get rid of the couch or the artwork.

Other than that, it's very nice.
