By simplifying the storage situation — moving out the mismatched bins, completing the collection to occupy the entire dresser, and also finding a more sophisticated, enclosed hamper — the visual clutter is toned down dramatically. The addition of white, floor-length curtains both softens the exposed brick walls and also gives the fabric bins something to relate to in the space. And finally, a few colorful potted plants completes the facelift by adding a shot of pigment and life to further freshen the environment. And all of this was done under $300.
Great job, TowerGirl! More from her Flickr set here.
While I agree it is a nice improvement, making the bed first would have helped a great deal (of course, then the makeover would have been less dramatic). Plus that step is free!

Yes the redo is great but my eyes were drawn to those wood floors combined with the exposed brick...Maginifique! What is that pine?

I painted the exposed brick in my apartment, and I like the result.
Not only do I have the color I want, but the roughness of the exposed brick surface is mitigated. Furthermore, paint seals the surface of the brick so I don't have to sweep up brick dust.

I really like the way that the gauzy curtains and new, lighter-color storage bins lighten the effect from the wood floors and exposed brick. The combination is great!
