Bicycle Basket Flowerboxes at the Newport Flower Show

The fantasy: there we are, pedaling home from an early morning trip to the farmer’s market on our sweet cruiser, hair blowing in the breeze, basket overflowing with a perfectly arranged bunch of fresh flowers. The reality: we overslept, our on-the-fly bike basket arrangement resulted in flying debris and a pile of smushed stems, and let’s not even mention the hair. We’re now seriously considering turning the front of our bikes into a permanent flowerbox like these ones we spotted at the Newport Flower Show so we can ride in style all the time — no trip to the market required...

We especially like the picnic-ready-in-a-pinch vegetable garden bicycles. The obvious downside is that we’ll have to add another basket to the back if we actually need to haul anything besides ourselves and our movable feast. Even for someone who doesn’t happen to ride their bike all that often (ahem, guilty), it would still look gorgeous filled with our favorite plants and parked outside the front door.

One of the landmarks in Toronto's Kensington Market is a car that's been converted into a planter; it's a political statement known as the Vehicular Reclamation Project: http://stylenorth.ca/blog/2008/10/decoration-as-declaration/
