Coordinating More Color with Kramfors Sofa & White Walls?
Good Question

kvillanatural_sofakramfors 2.jpgQ: I recently moved into an apartment with white colored walls. I am planning to buy new living room furniture. I visited IKEA and like their KRAMFORS sofa in Kvilla Natural Color. I was just wondering how to bring about a little colour into my living room with white walls if I buy this sofa.

kvillanatural_sofakramfors 1.jpgI am planning to buy coffee tables and end tables in darker shades of wood ( espresso / dark brown). Do the wood color and sofa match? I was also thinking of buying some brown colored accent cushions ( to match the dark wood) and some grey-blue accent cushions, with the same colours in an accent rug. I have grey-blue curtains too. Do you think it is too weird a choice of colors? Any other suggestions are welcome? Thanks.

I like it when it's all White with a few touches of dramatic color.
I would add a big colorful art like in this example:

or colorful flowers:

Colorful pillows can also look great and break the White.
I'm not crazy about blue- but if that's your color go for it!

What color is your floor?

I find that blue and brown can sometimes make for an odd-feeling palette, especially if the blue feels too cool and the brown feels too warm. I'm not suggesting that you can never use blue/gray with wood - I've done it myself - but I would suggest warming up or cooling down the whole palette by choosing cushions or blankets that have an overall warm or overall cool tone to them. Wood is a neutral, so you don't necessarily have to choose anything else brown like cushions to match it, just be aware of its underlying cool/warm properties.

Find a beautiful pillow or piece of art you like, and use it to pick the right colors. Also, check out kuler.adobe.com to build color palettes - it's fun and addictive. Good luck!

Wow, Jessica... Thanks so much for that website. I have been wondering all week if 2 colors would look good together in my apartment, and now I know they might look great! :)

Don't get too caught up with "matching" everything, and use patterns, not just solids. In a mostly neutral room, a bright rug from Anthropologie would be a star. I'm a sucker for Anthro's rugs. I think the Pliant Laurel Rug would be gorgeous in a room like you're describing. Or the Paisley Reef rug if you're bold enough. Pull colors from there for pillows, lamps, art etc.
