Good Question: Suggestions for a Slipcover?

03_13_GQ.jpgDear AT Friends, I have this loveseat and when I move I'd like to do the living room in more neutral, modern tones (the traditional blue look was more my roommate's style). Here's the thing: the slipcover I bought doesn't fit the overstuffed cushions, so I'd have use the loveseat sans cushions (ouch!) or place the cushions over the slipcover, thus defeating the purpose of the slipcover in transforming the room...

Any creative suggestions? I'm not crazy about the slipcover I bought, so I'm also wondering if they make slipcovers that will fit properly? Many thanks! Susan

Anyone have slipcover advice?

You could either keep the slip cover you bought and buy separate custom cushion covers. Or, if you're not too thrilled with the slipcover you bought, you could start over and try the stretchy version or one in a larger sofa size.

slipcovershop.com is good place to start for customizable cushion covers. Also, Surefit.com has stretchy versions of slipcovers ( I haven't tried them and they might not be your thing) and of course, sofa sizes.

I have an adjacent problem in that I have a chair-and-a-half and can't find a slipcover that doesn't look droopy or dowdy that isn't wildly expensive. I just ordered a "small loveseat" cover from Surefit... We'll see how that goes when it arrives.

I say return the slipcover and buy one that is a looser fit. For example, this one from Pottery Barn is pretty one-size-fits-all: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/p12451/index.cfm?pkey=cloose%2Dfit%2Dslipcovers

Try http://www.beforenafterslipcovers.com/. I had custom slipcovers made for my couch and they were definitely better priced than my local upholstery shops. Just make sure you're extra precise with your measurements.

Hey, I have one of the Pottery Barn dropcloth slipcovers in a really nice green that I'm looking to sell.

Let me know if you'd be interested!

I have a loveseat quite similar to this and I bought a stretchy slipcover from Target that fits is quite nicely. I was very pleased and it wasn't as expensive as some of them are (69.99, I think). Also, I've had it for over two years and it's only finally developing a couple of little holes...but I have three cats who claw the hell out of it.

Use the slipcover you bought and cover the cushions in a slightly darker or lighter shade for an interesting contrast. Or in a knobbly material or in dark brown corduroy or in something that matches another piece in the room...

i had the same issue with my couch. the cushion cover was one long elastic piece that just made the couch look awful! instead, i just left the cushions UNDER the slip cover because that was all one piece (i know some have a white space that belongs under the cushions). it looked great! it wasn't perfect, but it made the couch look much more inviting and new!
