Good Questions: Source for Paperwhites and Fake Trees?

12_10_GQ1.jpgHi AT! Where in the city can I find paperwhites and — in a completely opposite direction — a quality fake Christmas tree? I'd like a tree that's a few feet tall, none of those little tabletop ones. I need a recommendation I can get to on the T. Any ideas?

Thanks, Stephanie

Paperwhites make a lovely indoor, winter flower — perfect for the holidays. We also love the Amerillys which is another great bulb flower, but deep cherry red instead or white. Anyone have a local source for Paperwhites and/or quality fake Christmas trees?

Shockingly enough, Kmart has a great selection of fake trees - 6' and above.

I also got a great, skinny but 6' tall tree at Target. And they have some nice, not super garish, ornaments.

Paper whites - not sure, we bought a ton of them years ago at Costco of all places. I would call Petal and Leaf in JP - they have great flowers and are great about accomadating special orders.

Albany St. in South End has a flower district kind of thing going on. I never checked it out, but you might have luck there.

I got a live tree at Mahoney's last year, it's a nursery on the 86/70 route, surprisingly convenient for me to get home with it. For a fake tree, I would likely go out to Watertown (Arsenal Mall/Watertown Mall) on the 70 or 70A for Home Depot and Target, or South Bay Plaza (also Home Depot and Target) on the 10, 8... not sure about all the other buses, the 16 is another bus I see while I'm waiting. The 87 is another bus around Cambridge or Somerville that goes by a 3rd Target. Wherever you're coming from, there is a bus that goes to Target and Home Depot.

There is one on Western Ave in Allston/Brighton. They have paperwhites and it looks like fake trees as well.

I recently saw some pretty decent small (shorter than 6 ft.) trees at Hobby Lobby.

Thanks for posting my question! I'll definitely have to hop over to Whole Foods and pick up some paperwhites--I love the scent!

Also, braved the crowds over the weekend to find my tree. Both Home Depot and Target had plenty of options, and they were reasonably priced. I ended up buying a small real tree from Lotus Floral Designs, as the fake trees were a bit out of my budget right now. But I will definitely keep all of this in mind for next year, when I will (hopefully!) have the funds for a fake!

I saw some paperwhites and other bulb flowers at Target, in the Holiday aisle.

Trader Joe's in the Back Bay also has paper whites. I received some as a housewarming gift recently and I can't wait until they bloom!
