Paint Suggestions for Front Door & Steps?
Good Question

10-02_GQ.jpg

Q: What color of paint do you suggest for our front door and steps? We just bought this house and want to break up the green a bit. The covered area extends to the right through another archway (which is hidden in the photo) into an uncovered patio and is currently unpainted concrete...

The yellow is a tad mustard-y as you can see in the photo. I initially thought a bright red would look good on the door but then started worrying it would look like a Christmas house with red and green! Any ideas? Thank you!

I also think you should go deep purple.

Nice pic!

I think a deep brown would be great. Same goes for the steps.

I think the addition of a small wooden porch covering the existing steps would set the entry way off nicely.

Something that goes to the right edge of the entry bumpout, and still is able to tie in with the small sidewalk(s?) that go around to the side.

I don't suppose there's a nice wooden door underneath the paint that you can strip off? That would match your new porch nicely. :-)

darkish red or darkish purple for the door, maybe. actually, i kind of like the green now... (and i love the dog!!!) you could also add a lot of color with landscaping.

i recently did some work to the front of my house, too...

dark navy blue would be amazing, i'm thinking that because of your roof colour, plus, it would compliment your trim colour too.

I'd use the same mustard color as the trim, or I'd do a glossy black or dark grey.

I agree about adding color with the landscaping.

Aside from your color inquiry. may i just add: your dog is gorgeous. He is so beautiful. I think that just by having him in front of your door step your home looks awesome. so, perhaps any color might look great as long as he's in front.
(purple sounds good though)

Gee, I dunno... maybe one of the colors suggested when this was first posted several days ago???

(It's not your fault, Emily. It's just that AT's right hand doesn't know what its left hand is doing.)

teal. some sort of blue-green (or green-blue) would be lovely both with the colours of the house as well as those of the garden. (it would also look nice with the dog.)

Yellow--but a burnt mustardy yellow. Dijon?

I am stumped as to color but I think taking out the point above the doorway and giving it a curve would be wonderful. And then adding a curved wooden overhang for the steps would finish it nicely.

Good luck with the house, it looks great!

I would paint the front door a deep, rusty orange/copper color, like Sherwin Williams "Copper Mountain", and I would not make a big feature of the steps by painting them the same - I would paint them the same color as the body of the house or the foundation color and make them blend in and fade away a bit - that way the door is the pop of color and the featured element. I think the door color would then very nicely relate to your trim color as well. And perhaps some new larger copper-y address numbers, and move the mailbox from the floor of your stoop up and onto the outside of the house under the address numbers and under a new light fixture? Sorry, got a bit carried away there! :-) Cute house, and cute pup!

The eggplant or navy would nice. Also, please keep a collar and ID tags on your dog for safety. Designfan/dogrescue crossover. Sorry.
