Question Answered! Unpainted Chairs Get New Table

01_14_GQ1.jpg

Hi AT, I wrote in a while ago asking whether or not to paint our dining room chairs (above). Well, I took the advice of many and did not paint them, and realized that it was the table that was the problem! It clashed horribly with our floors too, so it had to go...

We replaced it with this cute antique, rustic round table we found for just $40 on CL. I'm really happy with how the chairs look with the table now, and the space feels so much better with a round table than a rectangular one. I also took some people's advice and moved our bookshelves, which look much happier on the other side of the room. Thanks, everyone! Cassie

Heh, I have the same table as the "before" photo. And the same color floor. It's been driving me nuts. I think I'll keep it for now, though.

I like it, but couldn't you just have painted the old table white? I think that would have looked great given the remainder of your room and the multi-colored chairs.

great job. glad you kept the chairs as they were. The accessories on the mantel are more interesting now too (although I also enjoyed the simple look you were going for previously as well). I think everyone steered you well regarding the bookcase move. Thanks for the update!

good choice! isn't it funny how sometimes we think it's the color but it's really the shape or arragement?

I love the new table but don't 'get' how it interacts with the rest of the room. I think Torgny's idea of painting the table white might have been more spot-on. But in any case, happy you're happy with it now.

You don't get how it interacts, even in the head-on shot where the round table, fireplace arch, and round mirror all carry on a pretty intimate conversation?

I actually think the new table makes the chairs the odd ones out, but that will also be determined by what happens in adjoining spaces.

Wonderful improvement, and the table is gorgeous! And it blends so naturally with the chairs.

Very smart! I like the round table very much...seems to fit the room better. I'm glad you didn't paint the chairs, and now they look great around the new table. Good choice!

Very nice.

Um… I really want those 2 thin lamps that are on the mantel in the before picture. Where did those come from???

actually, patrick (too), you articulated what I *meant* to say. I see how the old chairs worked with the old table. And I see how the new table works with the mirror, the fireplace, etc., but I don't see how the new table resolves the problem with the old chairs. in my opinion, there's a discordance there now that there wasn't previously.

Hey guys, that's my dining area!
Thanks everyone! I have NO idea what the color on the walls is called. We rent, and they were this color when we moved in.
Patrick(theotherone) and luckypeach- If you could see the chairs and table in person, you would see how well the grains match, like the chairs and the table were cut from the same tree, it's awesome.

I love the new little table, it so cute, and what a deal!

Craaigslist is awesome, I always find exactly what I need, even when I don't know what that is yet.
