Reviews on Costco Furniture?
Good Questions

Q: I'm looking to buy a new loveseat or sofa, and I drooled over all of the options posted yesterday on AT...but then I showed them to my mom for feedback and she nearly had a heart attack. So, she sent me this option for only $399...

I tried to find reviews online for Costco's furniture but with limited success. How do AT-ers feel about Costco buys? Thanks! Sent by Bridget

Editor: Once upon a time we bought a trunk for a dorm room from Costco — a rather sophisticated rattan piece with a sturdy steel frame on the inside — and it was very high quality. We can't attest to the the upholstered pieces, though. Anyone?

My friend just bought a big L-shaped microsuede couch from Costco- so far, she loves it, but it's only been a couple months.

I do love davenport-style sofas though.

my roommate ordered a Costco sofa online. they delivered it and set it all up. It looked between horrible and just less than ok, but it was EXTREMELY uncomfortable too. I could have let the ugliness somewhat slide if it had been comfortable, but no deal.

We have a leather couch from costco, its a few years old now, its FANTASTIC. Super comfy, has held up to the wear and tear. We have dogs too, ON IT and it cleans up beautifully with some leather cleaner. Couldn't be happier.

I believe (but could be wrong) that Costco furniture comes from a wide variety of companies. So I suppose it would depend on who makes this particular sofa. Any idea who the manufacturer is?

Cashew, thats what i was about to say...Costco isnt a furniture manufacturer its a distributor so it will vary greatly depending on who makes it

Honestly when it comes to cheap furniture I think most of the time just seeing it in person you can tell if it will hold up. I mean, it can be hard to tell how the padding will wear but the fabric, and general build is easy to spot out when doing a cost performance analysis.

It looks like any old college-style futon to me.

The brown couch above looks exactly like my couch...but mine isn't from Costco. But it looks SO much like it, that they could have a deal with the manufacturer that made mine.
I've had it for about 4 years.. and it still holds up..and looks good. It's a couch I look forward to graduating from as my tastes have evolved, but it has served me well over the years, and guests have said it has been comfortable to sleep on!

The one thing about Costco is their fairly lax return policy. So if it's uncomfortable after a few months of testing it out, return it and get a full refund.

That sofa is made by Woodbridge Home Designs, if that helps. I was just browsing CSN, and the same item is more expensive, but on their site as well:

I was just looking at this one, ha!:

I was hoping from the image that it would be rough, bomber jacket style leather. But it's microfiber. Drat.

That thing looks like the rear sofa from a 1970's Van. Please don't put that in your home.

The actual manufacturer is Lifestyle Solutions, everybody else is just a bulk distributor. (Buy enough containers and they'll print your logo on the box)

They make good stuff.

don't have a clue about couches but i bought a wire frame storage shelf/rack from costco and it is MUCH better made than the IKEA version for about the same price. And Home Depot didn't keep their version well stocked and it's only available in a much smaller size.

But i can't say I approve of the couch. It's rather unattractive in my opinion.

Are you set on it being NEW new? I mean, if your looking to find something more your "style," and money is the really determining factor, explore Craigslist. You can find some nice deals from time to time.

As for the couch your showing here, I can't say much about Costco furniture... however, as someone else has mentioned, their return policy is pretty top-notch. If in a couple of months it isn't for you, take it back for a refund.

Thank you Gabriel_s, appreciate the source. And I have bookmarked the site! They do indeed have leather!

I liked the first bedroom with the black/brown/white striped bedding. Very nice.

The urban outfitters Night and Day Convertible is much better looking than that, though apparently very firm, but surprisingly affordable for such a sleek-looking sofa.

Hello all - thanks for the comments!

I live in my own one-bedroom, 420 square ft apartment in undergrad housing at MIT (I'm a graduate residence advisor), and I'm looking for a piece that will be useful for both sitting and sleeping. I am not opposed to a new piece, but surfing Craigslist takes time and the faith that things aren't infested with bedbugs, etc...and with new things, I can get them delivered (which is more difficult with Craigslist stuff since I don't have a car).

I felt like this one in particular looked a little less "college-y" than a futon, which is a good thing. I'm also toying with the idea of getting a single bed from the dorm and setting it up as a day bed with a lot of pillows (which would be even more cost-savings). But we'll see! If I do end up going with the Costco sofa, I'll definitely let you know how it keeps up!

-Bridget
