I have a Parsons, and it is SUPER well made, yet easy to move. I had to give my last R&B catalog to a moving crew member who had to have the bed after moving it.

I can't speak for Sheldon's build quality, but it appears to be made by the same Minnesota based shop. I personally would take a chance on the quality being the same.

I'll be at a R&B store in the next week. If you haven't gotten a definitive answer, I'll check and take some photos of the construction for you.

I've had the Parsons bed from Room & Board for over ten years now. It is very sturdy and it breaks down into small pieces for easy moving, no nuts and bolts required. I highly recommend one.

The bed shown in the photo above is from Ikea. I'm thinking about it for my own bedroom. I've had an Ikea metal frame in the past and as long as you put it together well (ie: tighten all the bolts well) they are sturdy and quite quiet during 'activities'.

The Ikea Lillesand is great. Easy to move with, versatile looks, and suprisingly sturdy.

I have the Porto bed from Crate & Barrel and had the same thoughts. The bed is suprisingly sturdy, and I think it's becasue of the additional crossbars across the frame under the boxspring (and needed for my split queen boxspring). Ask if the Parsons also has them.

The Parsons underside is made up of steel bars that slot into the long steel sidebars of the bed frame. There are no nuts and bolts and screws and what have you, so there's no loosening of anything and there's no issue of shaking. It's going to be as sturdy as you can ever get a bed to be, short of hewning one of out rock. Highly recommend the Parsons bed. I love mine so much that when I moved continents in Jan, I left it in its individual slats in my friend's brownstone basement so that one day when I'm more flush, I can get an international shipping company to ship it back out to me. I do miss sleeping on it.

Why are you showing an Ikea bed in an article about R&B? This makes no sense!

I have the Taylor bed, and after more than a decade it is as good as new. I almost wish it weren't, because I am getting tired of it and it doesn't really work in the bedroom I have now (I really need something with a low footboard). Anyway, I don't think you can argue with the quality. The R&B Quinn chair I bought last fall, on the other hand...

We dismantled our VERY cool antique bed because no matter what we did we could not get it to "be quiet." I thought our neighbors would think we invited the circus to stay with us. More so it was the type of noise, not the loudness...it was like nails on a chalkboard. Ugh! Good job asking this question now..

I sent in photos of the actual R&B beds. I'm not certain why this is the photo posted. But the ones I'm looking at are the low footboard versions, like this:

The quality notes are encouraging, especially from sally305 (thanks!) Yes, the Parsons bed looks really strong, but the slim metal of the Taylor is harder to judge. Like oftheaprilbirds I used to have an antique bed that made it hard to face my neighbors in the morning and silence is now my number one demand from a bed frame!

The decorative metal on Parsons is much thicker, but the main side beams appear to be about the same, and the steel slats used to hold up the mattress are the same as Parsons.

I'm still willing to bet that the Sheldon or Taylor will have similarly high construction quality.

I have the Lillesand bed frame from Ikea (shown in picture). I absolutely love the way it looks, and it is very quiet, and extremely sturdy.

For metal bed, I suggest one must check The Original Bedstead Company's collection. Their metal beds are not only delicately beautiful but also sturdy and strong.
