Using techniques from traditional craftsmanship, Sebastian Brajkovic re-shaped two baroque-style chairs by extruding the backrest to create this love seat. Using similar optical tricks as the Downloading Rug, posted last week, it creates a feeling of movement. Although highly conceptual, the chair is functional as an elegant love seat. From the designer:
My very first thought with making this design was actually a practical one. I wanted to create more space on a singular chair by “extruding” the seat’s surface area. This extruding idea came from a Photoshop function where you can pick a row of pixels and extend them as long as you want. This modern computer method aided me to devise new ways of sketching as a contradictory partner in my design process. In this paradoxical sense, using antique forms was the next logical step.

while i applaud its avant-garde qualities, i cant help but be reminded of siamese twins.

Bizaar.

Just because photoshop can draw it, doesn't mean we need one in real life.

Prettypresley, so true. I thought of Siamese twins as well. Creepy.

NOT.

The backrest seems to visually overwhelm the seats and pretty legs- it's much too heavy. I could maybe (maybe) see this working with a more delicate backrest- caned?

Ugly.
Next, please.

I think this could be great in a gallery, or a fancy store, or a waiting room. Not only do you get a chair for sitting, but you have the conversation starter included right there with it, whether you like it or not! Could serve to meet people.

You have the conversation starter included... a pile of horse manure serves the purpose just as well and is cheaper.

ummmm.
no.

I would never have this in my house, and I hated the downloading rug last week -- but I think this is kind of neat looking.

This reminds me of the Yannick Pouliot exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts recently. Is this going to be a design trend?

I like it. It would be interesting in a bedroom.

It is unique and successful in using the possibilities that computer modeling/graphics provide for designers.
I may use one in a design project where a strong design piece is needed.
I would not have one for my own house, though.

Looks like two chairs fighting for a sweater.

click212 is so right!
I think this is an art piece, not furniture. In a gallery show of furniture-based art or even just sculpture, it would be fine. To sit on or look at in a home that doesn't have the space to be an art gallery -- no.

While I like the downloading rug as a piece of modern art, this is about the worst conceived piece of furniture/art I have ever seen. I don't even think Tim Burton could appreciate this abomination!

I absolutely love this.
It looks like one chair jumped out of itself and it's particles are leaping still...
