I want to like this place, in fact, I like the 2? rooms that I saw. But I don't feel that I actually got a look at a room but small parts of the house.

I understand that we want to be "artistic" but focusing/highlighting one object, creative angles and constant detail shots are more distracting than intriguing. I would really like to see the entire room and then detail shots that are worth the close-up (ie #9).

I wish I could be as comfortable as the occupants of this house. My DNA won't allow me to go coasterless on the coffee table.

Love the floors, the dog and the reading nook. Looks like a very inviting home to me!

I like many things about the space, love the kitty. I like the chalkboard entries, too, but "Weltschmerz" is what those folks have. Still, pretty cool.

I liked the artistic photos. That shot of the branch on the metal chair was pure heaven. I think it's the best photo I've seen on ATB.

I have the EXACT same chair with orange upholstery and canning (sp? canning? cane-ing?) that the dog is curled up on! I share your philosophy that if it held up long enough to get to a thrift store then it is probably a pretty solid buy. I love that you work to turn thrifted/found pieces into something cohesive and comfortable.

Pets on furniture certainly give proof of comfort, if any were needed. I love your chairs - really clever thrifting, they are!

I think artistic shots are great, but so are easy to understand shots of a room. I'd like to take a house tour and get more than a fuzzy idea of what the room actually looks like. I couldn't draw a floor plan of this house if I had to. We need some quality control for these house tours, this is the second tour in as many weeks that has been less about the house decor and more about...[ok, bitching over].

Apart from the issue of the lack of "establishing" shots in this tour (which I agree with), I loved the gorgeous photography, great writing, and subject of this post. This is classic AT to me--a small space creatively outfitted by resourceful and imaginative owners.

I love picture 8 - it looks as if Jon is about to deliver some devastating criticism of the dog's movie script.

"Well, yes, I can see that it's an ambitious remake of 'To Kill A Mockingbird'... but I don't see why Atticus needs to be played by a beagle..."

As for the house itself...

I like the rich yet refined colours on the walls, the unexpected bursts of art in postcards and doodles, the unfussy blending of antiques and the fact that the lumps and bumps of the old house are embraced rather than fixed. It's utterly charming without being twee... which is a very rare achievement. I dream of living in a place like this.

However may I respectfully suggest that the faux tilt shift effect in the photos be strangled now, at birth, before it gets loose and invades other posts?

This should convince my husband that I'm not insane... lol He looks at me funny whenever I show him something vintage that might have a weird color or texture to it... I swear I'm not stranged... heheheh!

I enjoyed the tour and the wonderful moody shots taken. I thought they captured
the overall tone of your place. The slight blur, is more true to real life, because when you are at home and focused on the computer, reading or whatever
the rest of your view is not sharp. It made me eel that I was moving within your space.

Also, for being a rental in an older home you did fantastic job of making this a home. Good job!

I actually took a second glance at the stereo before I realized what I was really looking at there. I admit that I never imagined a stereo of that sort could be successfully integrated into contemporary decor. Admirable! I think it looks cool up there.

The photo with the knives is... well, kinda creepy. Like a hand is going to come out of the oven mitt and grab one of the knives or something...

Also the cameras between the books on the bookshelves make me think of a nanny-cam. Are they trying to figure out which cat scratched the furniture?

This place has personality. I can't quite figure out how to inject my place with it. Great to see it done so well here.

Beautiful. And don't worry about the photography . . . we're all just jealous of your skills. (ok . . I am. I can't speak for anyone else) :) I think all the shots are lovely and show your love for the home you live in. So we don't get a complete and exact picture. What we do get is FEELING. And I adore the love and warmth that come from every picture.

But tsk tsk blandwagon...those are real tilt-shift photos, not fake! That's just what happens when I'm left to my own devices with a nice camera and lenses...I wander around my own house taking pictures.

To address some of the comments about the establishing shots, I agree that I could have done a better job there, but I want to point out that my space is small - just four rooms total. So you are pretty much seeing it all, even if it doesn't feel that way. I probably should have included a floor plan. I wish I had done an establishing shot of the bedroom, but as we are now expanding into our new artist's studio, the house got completely rearranged and that incantation of the bedroom is now gone.

Great minds think alike! The dollhouse looks identical to the one my father built (I designed) for me in the 70's! I have used it to store everything from towals to books also! Love it!

Hate it. Good photography doesn't make up for a shabby home. There's "shabby chic" and pure shabby, and this is the latter. I won't disagree that there are a few beautiful pieces in there, but the house looks like every other run down old home in JP. I'm shocked to see it made it on here.

Ridiculously beautiful light-drenched photographs--and I though you built yourself a pinhole camera . . . I think you could turn my mishmash into beautifully captured vignettes . . . I prefer this to the stop-action unedited tours where I see everything very well, multiple times, ad nauseum (takes a long time to click thru).

This home is so cozy and inviting. I love your blackboard wall, the lovely rug, and all of the books. I think books are the soul of a comfortable home. Oh, and your pets look like they love it there too. Can't say I blame them.

I happen to like homes that have a certian faded quality. They (like this house) can have a certian romantic air that you just can't buy.

This home looks very inviting & cozy - overall very "JP". I live in the neighborhood myself. However, I was dismayed to see the exterior photo of the backyard - this is ostensibly a dirtpatch with a hammock displaying no design direction whatsoever. I think this photo detracts from the cohesiveness of the tour, and should not have been included. Apartment Therapy needs to up its game regarding the quality of the exterior photos it chooses to feature.
