A Room of One's Own: Inspiring Artist Retreats

One of my New Year's resolutions is to spend more time in my basement studio — a cramped, dimly lit alcove cluttered with paint, fabric scraps, instruments, and ephemera. But like most creatives, I dream of one day constructing an artist's retreat outside the city where I can work uninterrupted by the demands of everyday life.

From solitary rooms with nothing more than a table and chair to expansive studios with all the tools of inspiration close at hand, these divine spaces nurture the creative spirit and motivate us to keep saving toward that elusive goal.

i LOVE that first one, "the brain". its the kind of place you feel connected to, like you'd cry when you had to leave. omg, how mushy!

If these are within striking distance of shops, restaurants and theatres I'd happily live in any of them.

These are all amazing, but that first one rocks my world. I couldn't get your link to work, so here's the link to "The Brain": http://www.oskaarchitects.com/Projects/46/The-Brain .

That first room is gorgeous. I dream of having a library that has a big wall of windows.

The common denominator here seems to be lots of window space. I agree -- this makes for great light and great inspiration!
