Nightmare Inducing Furniture
Fast Company

These pieces come from an article in Fast Company aptly named: 12 Terrifying Pieces of Furniture That Will Give Your Children Nightmares with the sub-text, "Plenty of the world's most buzzed-about designers will happily sell you furniture that will make your children cry." While we've seen many of the pieces individually before, seeing them all together in this collection makes us wonder just what exactly these designers are trying to achieve with these pieces? Feels more like it is design intended to push buttons not boundaries...

Hmm.... I don't think these 4 are scary at all, for any age-group. Intriguing, yes, very much so, there's a couple here that, if I had the space and money for it, I would definitely want. Some kids might be apprehensive at first but I think most will run for it and play with it.

Amusing, more than terrifying.

Clearly it's more about art than a marketable consumer product, so, cool!

Obviously they're not something I'd buy for my bedroom, (thought he frong table is kinda fairytale-ish almost) but I like to see all the interesting things people do with design. Thanks for posting. :)

The last one made me giggle. I think these are more ugly than terrifying.

These are not nearly as scary as dusty, massive old Victorian pieces (which, as anyone who has read Jane Eyre knows, can assume strange and forbidding shapes in dim light).

SO AWESOME.

I totally want the smirking muppet chair. I mean, the Wooly Chair.

The skin stuff is truly grotesque and fascinating.

Just imagine you are visiting a new friend's house for the first time- and you see the skin furniture, and perhaps the rocking chair with legs. Run away! Run like the wind! Do not look back. Delete them from your address book. Pray they do not have your address. Eat chocolate and phone your Mum for comfort. Thank your lucky stars you are still alive.

I kinda of like the cubist grandma chair although I don't know how one would even attempt to sit in it. Maybe good as a museum piece but, definitely not functional . I think the the crocet snake is funny but the other ones are a little disturbing.
