Repurposed Provincetown Firehouses

While in Provincetown, it’s tough not to notice how many converted firehouses there are. As if Cape Cod couldn’t get any more rustic and charming, how about having a beach home where the front door rolls up to let the breeze in?

Cape Cod’s earliest firehouse dates all the way back the 1800’s. Most of the retired stations now serve as homes and a few have been converted into retail shops. And some, like the 4th photo, still stand abandoned (see yesterday’s post about buying a fixer-upper).

My favorite is the house in photos 6 & 7. The owners have done an amazing job with a classic renovation. I love the flagpole jutting from the front, and check out the firehouse door that opens to a sitting porch.

An old restored firehouse would be a dream to own- although I couldn't leave the room if the door was open- to paranoid about people stealing stuff!

I've walk by many of these buildings every summer for the last nine years and didn't even realize that they were old firehouses. Passing by the one in photo 6 & 7, you just want to sit down on those rockers and snuggle in to do some serious P-town people watching.

Huh. I definitely just walked past all of those buildings last weekend and had no idea they used to be firehouses. Of course, there's plenty of other things to catch your eye in P-town...

Good pictures!!! I love firehouses unfortunately many are closing, here in Sf they are trying to be saved. These are very quant.

On another note I am getting tired of the term "repurposed", like I got over "24/7" and then the worst "My bad". sorry just getting over done in design blog world.

I didn't realize these were all firehouses either. But why so many all in the same small area?

I like #7 as well. It's so cute that they made it into a little sitting area!
I was just in the Cape and saw a lot of homes like this.
While I was there I just kept thinking, if money was no object and I wanted to buy a house there, how could I POSSIBLY choose just one! They are all so beautiful!
