Creature Comfort: Climbing Light by black+blum

01_29_Crawling1.jpg

What's that climbing up our wall? A little man with a lightbulb for a head, of course! Also known as Climbing Light by black+blum, this wall-mounted bedside light saves precious space on our tiny nightstand while adding a dose of humor to serious nighttime reading. Follow the jump to see him all lit up...

We received a few questions regarding our little light after this post about art over the bed. The silver-tipped lightbulb creates a downlight, perfect of reading, and the the overall design concept makes it OK to have the cord and switch exposed and easy to reach from bed. Climbing Light attaches to the wall with a single, small screw which his top-most hand is "holding."

It might be an unconventional bedside lamp but we love the sense of humor it adds to a room which has the potential to be altogether too serious. Climbing Light is available at Black & Blum for $43.

I love all the Black Blum products. You can't go wrong with their loop candlesticks at only $28.

I think the concept is really interesting. It reminds me of those tins of bendy magnetic men I've seen at toy stores and I really like the simplicity of the design.

Personally though, I'm relatively sure that seen from the corner of my sleepy, sans contact eye it would look like a really big bug hanging out by my bed. The mental image of a really big bug on my wall is one of the last things I want to have to reason past during a restless night.

I think my rock climbing friends would love this.
I love the paint color...any ideas what it could be?

I thought that it was kind of cute, actually. When it's on, it looks pretty harsh though.

Yeah I have one, and I couldn't get rid of it when I posted it on craigslist. I don't have anywhere to put it, so I ended up packing it away - I figure I'll get some use out of it once I move. But the light is hella bright, and I'm worried about what I'll have to go through to get the same sort of bulb once this one burns out.

Separately, what paint color is on your wall? I tried to match the color (against a different picture, but similar color), and ended up with a hideously bright electric blue...I was way off. Would love to use this color somewhere in my apt.

The paint is:

Ben Moore Blue Echo (Aura)

I absolutely love the idea of it, since it would completely solve the problem I'm currently having in finding a reading lamp. I have no room for bedside tables, and all the clip-on lamps for my headboard are hideously ugly. Still, I get apartment centipedes, and I have a feeling I would see this light in the middle of the night, freak out, and beat it with a pillow until it dies, which probably wouldn't be good for the light.

Kayla here -

The color is Blue Echo from the Aura colors at Ben Moore. It is deep, calm and lovely in person.

This little light is bright but the silver tip keeps it from being blinding and you can also angle it away if you need less light. Silver-tipped light bulbs are fairly easy to find. We don't use it that often - only for a short while each night so we imagine this bulb will last us for a while.

One point of warning: the bulb does get warm. This is not the sort of light you leave on for hours.

I think it's great. I do have a minor problem imagining oversized bugs at night, and for a while slept with a can of Raid on my night table. I finally got over that when I realized that without the benefit of my glasses I was imagining shadows to be giant spiders. The Raid can is now under the sink. I don't even know why I still have a can of Raid. I can't bear to see the bugs suffer when they're sprayed and it's probably environmentally unwise in the first place ...

Having said all that, I'm perfectly able to distinquish friend from foe and might just have to get this little guy, or give it to my daughter, or both ...

I've been in your room many times but never actually seen this light on! I think I'm going to get one for my desk at work.
