apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Interior Landscape: Consolación Hotel

0519_camprubi.jpg

Being outdoor month here at Apartment Therapy we are interested in exterior spaces and bringing the outdoors in but what really struck us about this space is that it feels as though it has been treated as a landscape yet is still very decidedly interior. A garden like space without the green. The room is labeled as a lounge or a meeting room but the use of the modular furniture creates what feels more like an interior landscape than a typical room with chairs. It is very hard edged and cool yet somehow organic at the same time...

We are intrigued with the notion of creating very striking modern spaces yet retaining an informal organic feel. Even the long armed lights add an almost whimsical feeling to the space and lend to the feeling of the interior being treated more as a landscape than a room with furniture and defined zones. We would love to have a space like this in our house for just hanging out and watching TV. It makes having a couch and chairs seem so formal. It's a little like having a room with just beanbag chairs but this comes off as a lot more sophisticated.

Would you consider your interiors as landscapes or is this going a little too far?

Why not have an interior that looks like a landscape. But not one that looks like a cemetery...

If this is the lobby - can you imagine what the rooms look like?

No, thanks

While I'm not keen on the colours of this room I can definitely see some potential in the idea. It could work well for a media room (for those of us lucky to have the space) of even a kids lounge/playroom. There is a cinema near me that has a small theater they call the halfpipe and everyone sits on beanbags, it seems to appeal well to the teen audience they are targeting. There is also something about a whole floor pillows of that I find calming!

Um, this is a room for group events.

I'm sure we've all seen the all-male cast presentation of that cinematic masterpiece 'Saving Ryan's Privates'.

It was filmed here.

That wouldn't even be fun with a keg in the middle of the floor.
