We have people over a lot so we're always on the lookout for flexible, affordable seating/surfaces for our living room. (We were happy to see Susie's post yesterday on AT San Francisco about extra seating for Oscar night.) In particular we've been thinking more and more about poufs. In part because it's a delightful word to say. But we also like that poufs can double as mini-table (with a tray) and seating. This rattan pouf from Urban Outfitters caught our attention and it's not terrible on your wallet...

I'm tired of all the Urban Outfitters posts. If you don't like their politics you shouldn't give them your money. Conveniently ignoring what they do with THEIR money, just because they have cute/cheap stuff, shows bad character. Just say no.

Huh?

not nearly as tiring as all the complaining from the self righteous about what they deem to be morally or socially incorrect. It's called freedom of choice. Deal with it.

More imported crap sold by a company that markets themselves to the groups whom the owners hate the most - Great.
How much does AT get paid for these informercial posts?
How about more resources for items made by our neighbors here in the USA so we can all look beyond the obvious KEA/UO/Pottery Barn/Crate & Barrel retail choices?

If you have good suggestions for great local affordable items please send them our way...

I believe if this was made locally and/or by hand it would cost a great deal more and thus the comments would be about how out touch we are with the budget minded crowd. You can't have it all with every product and it's either going to hurt your wallet or sacrifice quality or sustainability.

I don't have a problem with Ikea, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel. I do with Urban Outfitters/Anthropologie. Spreading hate is its own kind of badness.

Why exactly is Urban Outfitters so evil? I think I'm missing something?

Yet another sign of my inevitable aging. I would be bummed if the last "seat" in the room was a pouf. I have visions of me trying to remain upright on it and hauling my rear off of it. Alas, me thinks it shares more in common with a bean bag than a chair. Makes a cute foot stool, though.

Lily, I agree, and I'm 25. I'm a big woman, so sitting on a pouf, especially a rattan pouf is a no no. I'd crush this thing. I really like the shape though. 2 of them would make a cute coffee table/foot stool.

i, for one, dig the pouf.

AT is simply displaying options for our consideration. it is a source of ideas from all kinds of sources, some of which may have connections to practices that some people may not like. it is up to each individual person to decide whether or not they agree with the posts and where to spend their money. I don't think it should be part of AT's duties to filter their design sources to please a particular group, (and if it was, which one?). of course, those who expressed dislike of UO have the right to do so, but I think it's going a little far to insist that the posts reflect *your* particular beliefs.
and I second the notion that if anyone has any locally made sources, please send them in! I'm sure we would all enjoy them.

Thank you jennaelliot and bepsf: I had no clue what everyone was talking about. Okay, so I like the puff and (I'm now ashamed to say) I like Anthropologie. How does American Apparel "turn a profit" if they make their clothes in the US? If one man is worth a quarter of a BILLION $$$ it seems like they could pay a little more for the goods and still do okay in their profit margins. "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for one day; if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime" I understand that it is a good thing to provide jobs for people, it is far better than handing out charity. What I don't understand is why someone like Dick can't be more generous, less greedy, and pay the workers a little more for the goods they make. I would love to sit down with Judy off the record and get the real story of Dick. She seems like a smart woman.

Try out the next time AT is looking for a new blogger. I'm sure we'd all enjoy your posts of affordable, stylish, available online, sustainably made, responsibly marketed home goods.

No poufs. They're cute enough, but given a choice between a pouf and the floor, I'll take the floor.

I'm always looking for bepsf's opinion in comments. I second patrick (the other one).

stupid >> who cares about how he was liberal back then and has changed??? Please -- anybody would do the same in his position. I dont know one person who wouldnt grow their company for money --or more money. And make business decisions based on MONEY. And as far as changing, I myself was pretty much a democrat, until I grew up and had children. I changed , my views have changed, etc.. And this guy shouldnt be attacked or questioned on who he supports or what he thinks about gays. It is his choice. period. we have those freedoms over here, remember? And everything is made in china india third world countries... They need the work and I would rather them bring some money in then on the streets selling themselves or worse, their kids. And ok pay them fair wages right? Ok but if we pay them the same as they would get here then why bother using them at all? So then we keep the jobs in the us.. So now they are hookers again?
Its all relative. And it is so easy for ms judy his ex to say he sold out blah blah blah, because they broke up and she probably is wishing she had the money he has so she can save the world, right? sure.... Notice they couldnt find one other person to say crappy things about him except his ex wife???? come on
