apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Puma City, Part Two: Racing Boat Tour

While we know this isn't standard Apartment Therapy fare, we couldn't help but share the minimal living arrangements inside one of the Puma racing team's practice boats. At sea for anywhere between two weeks to over a month, the team of 11 must live and race together 24 hours a day with absolutely no privacy...

The interior is all function, made almost entirely out of carbon fiber with no amenities. We weren't surprised they mandated for this year's race that the interior of the boat be painted white, despite the weight gain. The bathroom was probably the most pleasant space — despite crawling though a tiny door — feeling comparatively spacious with a little skylight pouring light in. The navigation center, like the bathroom, seemed like the only place designed to actually sit down on the entire boat. These pictures should make a 200 square foot apartment seem like a luxury.

FIRST ROW
1 Approaching the 60' Boat
2 On deck. Not your typical yacht amenities
3 Below Deck, Entering carbon fiber world
4 Sleeping Bunks, on both sides because you have to stay on the high side of the boat
5 Navigation center

SECOND ROW
6 Looking to the front, the small door leads to the bathroom
7 The small skylight made the bathroom the most pleasant space
8 Note the foot shape grips if the seas are rough
9 Kitchen to the right
10 Kitchen, just enough to heat up freeze dried food

Check out part one where we tour the Shipping container prefab Puma City and head over to Fan Pier this Saturday to see the boats in action for the in-port race at 1pm.

There are also videos of the design and contruction of the newest racing boat to get more info.

was just there yesterday, enjoying the sunshine and a cocktail at their bar, which over looked these amazing boats.
