Look! Fun Accent Color Placement

jphouse1.jpg

We're revving up to paint the outside of our house so we're on the lookout for interesting accent and/or trim color placement. This house in Jamaica Plain caught our eye with its fresh and fun yellow accent...

This slight overhang seemed like a novel place to accent - we love the dimension-adding effect, not to mention the poppy yellow color. We're fortunate to live in a neighborhood brimming with painted ladies; we won't be short on inspiration as we think about our own house.

Do you have any favorite exteriors in your neighborhood?

That looks pretty fun. I have to admit that I like seeing it but tend to be more conservative when it comes to my own home exterior. My exterior of choice in the neighborhood is actually quite boring but effective. It's a really nice grey-ish beige with red and white trim. Looks classy. :)

That "slight overhang" has a name - It's called a "Soffit"

And I agree - It's a clever and beautiful accent on an otherwise conservatively-painted home...
...in much the same manner as a contrasting welt on a sofa or a contrasting color painted in the back of a bookcase or the inside of a cabinet.

I really like the way that looks! The yellow color is perfect against the grey exterior. That sort of reminds me of a ceiling painted a sky blue on the exterior porch against a white house. I've always loved that.
